I would have bet the turn, I do not really want to leave a free card. But, I would have had a tough decision, as well, if he had pushed all in (it could have been a semi bluff or a flush)
On the river, it is indeed very tough. Of course, it depends on the history of this player and particularly of how you played with him so far. Can he think that you have something like A7 and you could pay him off on the river?.
If he is a tricky player, I will just let this hand go.
I think he has got unfortunately AAd, because he checked the turn as you left him a free card and he probably thinks you did not c/r with a flush draw on the flop (Does he think you are capable ot that?) and because he is aggressive, you will pay him off with 8X AX or better.
