First off... remember that CBS was reporting what was said in a leak. They weren't reading the report and picking and choosing what they wanted to paint the picture they wanted. So you cannot conclude that CBS distorted anything.

Second- I don't agree that damage to Al Queada would be the most important element of the story. In the context of the war on terror, Al Queda is just one player.

The purpose of the report, I thought, was to confirm how the US was doing in the war on terror. The Bush admin constantly talks about how we're safer and winning while this report confirms a growth in terrorism. That is not to say that there are not areas where we have done well or can forsee possible progress.

Many predicted that an invasion like Iraq would breed terrorism. This seems to be confirmed.
