I feel like this line means "I'll call your push, but I really don't want to have to," which makes it really dumb, because in his head, he's trying to discourage you from bluffing the missed flush and putting him to a big decision, which is not something he should do if he plans on calling.

I would push and then act however he might think you would act if you were bluffing. What I mean by that is somehow to give him a reason to doubt you, and he will.
