100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I know that there somewhere is a topic on this one, but I can't find it.
It seems that there is a $100M buy-in, 6 player tournament scheduled for '08. There is a $10 million buy in tourney being arranged right now but i believe they only have 1 or 2 players. It is winner take all with a $60,000,000 prize going to the winner. I was reading this on cardplayer and someone wrote this: [ QUOTE ] When I was on the UB World Poker Challenge TV table last July, I was lucky enough to have dinner with Matt Savage and the VP of Fox Sports and the VP was setting up this deal while we ate....We also got to meet the owners of the Crown Casino in Australlia (cool guys man ). Well while we ate he mentioned a couple names.....at this point I think he was throwing name out as "potential", but here is what he said: Phil Ivey, Doyle, Hellmuth, Chau Giang, Andy Beal, Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan, Sammy Farha and he also talked of a online qualifier for one no namer. [/ QUOTE ] What do you think of this format? Is it absurd, will this be the top of the mountain in poker regarding popularity? I like the idea, but it's getting way out of control with these big/bigger/biggest things. |
Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
No way any of these players besides Beal has $100 million. Whatever you read is wrong; probably confused with the $10 million buy-in tournament Ivey was trying to get going.

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I'm pretty sure Doyle could buy into a 100million$ tournament many times over.
|
Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I am pretty sure that he couldn't.

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
This tournament would never happen, short of having Trump, Gates and 4 other rich men picking out a pro to go at it for fun. You can't play good poker unless you are comfortable with losing the money that you've put up. Even if you could find 6 pros that could bankroll themselves, there is no way they would because they are all smart people who realize that a bad beat would put them in the poor house and they could not escape some hands they are involved in.
And to whoever said below that Doyle has over a few hundred million dollars to blow, think about how unrealistic that is. |

Doyle Brunson is the greatest poker player ever. HE IS A LEGEND. There is no doubt that this skill has made him BILLIONS. Think about it. He is the greatest ever. And, he played in the old texas road games, he isn't another internet wannabee. |

[/ QUOTE ] I've been told by a few older gentleman that have known Doyle for 50 years (I live in Texas, and, the poker scene is a pretty tight knit group as far as the undeground clubs that have reputations go), and one of them told me in confidence that Doyle was probably worth around 100 million. So, no, he doesn't have 100 million to blow, but, he is probably the richest poker player ever, with Chip Reese being a very close second. |

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I bet i know what this is. It's probably like some stupidass freeroll, but if two players have straight flushes on the final hand of the tournament, the winner gets $100m or something similarly retarded.

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I may be mistaken, but didn't Brunson place a 750million$ offer to buy WPT?
|
Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
Who moved this to MTT from WPT?
Whoever you are, I hate you. |
Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I believe he was the head of a team of investors. There's no way they're running a 100 million dollar tournament with more than two people in it.

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
LOL.
This thread went from WTP > MTT > NVG. I think it's dizzy!] You have a home here, thread. Take them shoes off and stay a while. |
Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
For all the years Doyle has been playing, the amount of $ he's probably made has to be well into the 8 figures. Not 100 million but I'd say it's gotta be a lot more than people think. What's he been playing for, 50 years ? How long has the 4k-8k game been going for, 7 years or so ? That's gotta add up to a [censored] load of $ right there. Negreanu also made a comment about Ivey, saying he would pretty much play any limit, that he ain't afraid of nothing.

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I also heard something about this 6 player tournamnet with Phil Ivey already slated. Although I don't think they are buying in. Don't know the details. I think it is sponsored. I also don't know if it is quite $100 million.

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
I heard it was a one hundred BILLION dollar freezeout and will take place deep inside a secret lair.

Re: 100 Million dollar 6-player tournament
1.) Doyle is worth approximately ten hundred billion dollars.
2.)(This is a fact I learned from the worst 2-5NL player I have ever seen) Phil Hellmuth is on tv/billionaire and has tons of money and it's a huge shock he hasn't immediately signed up for this $10,000,000/chump change tournament, that's an easy 60 million in one hour. 3.)Sit N gos are not stupid especially a 6 handed winner take all. It's not as dumb as taking ten million dollars and setting on fire(which would make money even more valuable) 4.) Andy Beal will not be playing in this because ---A. He is underrolled, he is only a millionaire and this is roughly 60% of his action. ---B. He is not a poker player. That is all. |
