$60 Stars: 2 hands in 24 hours wowowow! Total idiot play inside!
So here is the deal. Opponent is prettymuch a 40/20 complete LAG. He is obsessed with protecting his blinds.
If I call- He may check and why not build a pot when I have a ton more value than his crap holdings? If I raise to 400-450- He'll come over the top and I'll likely have to fold, as this would tighten his range up (or so I think). If I push for an absurd amount- Ok, I know there will be a nice differing of opinion here, but I like this play. He will think I'm a weirdo and REALLY open his range. He'll also think I'm trying to bully him around, and that would irk our mean little LAG in said hand. He was truly craz-azy. Discuss. Re: $60 Stars: 2 hands in 24 hours wowowow! Total idiot play inside!
You would have to loosen up his range to over 40% for this to be reasonably +ev. This is a pretty bad push, he made get steaming mad for a second but he is not calling with 22+,A2+,K2+,Q9o+,Q5s+,JTo,J8s+,T9s for all his chips.

With a stack of ~16 BB, you can afford to fold and then make a move with a better hand in a better (or more desperate) situation.

Oh well, it made me feel cool, and that's all that matters.
Plus he had AA lolololol. |
Re: $60 Stars: 2 hands in 24 hours wowowow! Total idiot play inside!
vs this player, I don't hate a push here at all.
If he's truly a maniac and will call with any ace (ace whore type), etc., it's pretty much a neutral EV push, and that's the worse case scenario. If you add some lower kings in there like KJ, KT, etc., it's a good push. If he'll call w/ SNGPT loose range (A9+ kind of thing), it's definitely a worthwhile push. Ryan |

I get: call % EV 10% +0.6% 15% +0.3% 20% +0.1% 25% -0.0% 30% +0.1% 35% +0.2% 40% +0.3% It seems to be -EV, but only slightly, at 22%-26% (33+,A3o+,A2s+,KJo+,KTs+,QJs to 22+,A2+,K9o+,K7s+,QTs+,JTs). Villain might be in that range, but I still wouldn't call a -0.1% push "pretty bad" especially if you think it will give you an advantage latter in the SNG. (Not that I'm advocating -EV actions for image purposes, just taking minor issue with the "pretty bad" description.) |
Re: $60 Stars: 2 hands in 24 hours wowowow! Total idiot play inside!
I don't get some of the suggestions here. Why if we know the BB is a LAG / partial maniac are we looking to push him out of a pot that is likely to be lightyears ahead of what he would push over the top with? Meaning, are you just trying to steal his blind or are you trying to stack him?
From where I sit, I make my standard 3x raise, and then happily call his over-reacting push with junk. You have a pretty darn good hand for SB vs. BB. Be happy to get it all in with him. Am I all wet?? |
Re: $60 Stars: 2 hands in 24 hours wowowow! Total idiot play inside!
In spots like this I like to see a flop cheaply and then build a pot if I hit a nice flop.

Re: $60 Stars: 2 hands in 24 hours wowowow! Total idiot play inside!
I think this is really really bad. You are risking 2385 to win 225 in chips, or best case you are risking 2385 for 4770 or 2 to 1 on your money, worst case you are done, when he calls with Ax and it holds up, because he thinks you are a crazy.
KQ is nice, but what hands would call your crazy bet? Would you think of calling a crazy move with 77-AA, AK, AQ, AJ, AT, KQ. Against this range of hands you are about a 1.87 to 1 dog. If we shorten the list of hands that he calls with to AA-TT, AK, AQ. You are now a 2.66 to 1 dog. If he is total maniac and we widen his range to 22+, A9s+, KJs+, QTs+, A9o+, KTo+, QTo+, then it becomes a 1.15 to 1. This move will be successfull many times to win the blinds, but the same could be accomplished with normal raises. If he always calls then that is good because you have a decent hand and he would be playing marginals that you will beat many times. KQ is a marginal hand against many of the hands that will call in this situation on such a large bet, especially if you have done it several times. AA-TT, AK, AQ. There aren't any antes yet which would add more to be won, but why risk more than you need to to steal the blinds here? |
