bet the turn [/ QUOTE ] dang it's lame to be house #2 always.... House #2 says, i don't hate the call as much as i hate you not betting the turn... at least 2/3rds of the possible range that he's floating you with now beats you.. not to mention KJ which is another popular holding |

bet the turn [/ QUOTE ] I checked for pot control, I didn't want a huge pot. |
Re: $100NL Do you hate this call?
To those of you against checking the turn, please list the factors in this hand that make exercising some pot control suboptimal. Or if you prefer, concoct a similar situation in which pot control would be more appropriate. I think that would help both me and OP.

[/ QUOTE ] When I 3-bet AK PF and hit the flop perfectly (e.g. here), pot control is usually the last thing on my mind. If you raised like KJ in the CO and got a decent TPGK flop, checking behind a safe turn might be a good spot for pot control. Make sense? |
Re: $100NL Do you hate this call?
Letting a free card drop is terrible. I understand that you want pot control. Bet like 1/2 the pot or something. Don't let him draw for free. Also, you are in position so that would make it easier for me to bet the turn here.

[/ QUOTE ] I bet this, but checking crosses my mind probably because when and when not to use pot control has not yet completely solidified in my head. |

call all day...

Re: $100NL Do you hate this call?
With the very real chance of being wrong, the paradigm I use to determine when to check behind involves how likely villian is to pay off multiple value bets, how many draws there are on the board, but mostly how likely I feel it is that villian peeled with a draw vs. peeling with a pair vs. a set, i.e. whether I need to charge, value bet or block for the river, and that is much more read dependent.
Here maaaaybe KQ will pay off a bet on the turn, while checking should increase the chance a weaker hand paying us off. However, checking the turn also obligates us to call just about anything reasonable, regardless of what drops, so I think the call is just fine. Also, because hero reraised preflop, firing again on the turn defines our hand to almost exactly AA/AK/JJ making it even easier to play more optimally. |
Re: $100NL Do you hate this call?
If you check turn for pot control, then you don't freaking
pay off huge to a flush river. You fold. |
Re: $100NL Do you hate this call?
given that you checked behind it's an easy call, but i like betting 40 on the turn here.

Re: $100NL Do you hate this call?
I agree with just calling and also that you should have bet the turn. Pot control really shouldn't be a concern when you flop as big as you did. But, given the way the SB played the hand, I don't think you should fold. It smells like a pocket pair like tens or nines and he's trying to steal the pot on the river after you slowed down.
