Congratulations to the Democratic Party Supporters on this Forum

It looks like the House of Representatives is a lock to have a Democratic Party majority after the elections tomorrow and there's a decent chance the Democratic Party will control the Senate as well. Congratulations for the victory as I wouldn't have thought it a probable one a year ago. The "stay the course" policy of the administration regarding Iraq has been successfully campaigned against. I suppose that's a good thing since the public wants a change. Now the direction of that war will be debated and the new Congress will seek to implement a new policy. What will be the agenda for the new Congress? TIA for comments.

If 30% is a decent chance, yes, thats in the real world for the Senate. I generally dont like to enter hands when Im dominated though.

I have a $100 bet. Dems win both, i win, Reps retain both, i lose, split is a push. I love betting on the future of the free world.

I made $$$ when Arnold won in Cali, and lost my shirt when Kerry lost in 04

Even I don't consider myself a Democrat, I really want them to win; so, tense is about right; I do have a bad feeling though when the elections are this close, they tend to go Republican because of the Diebold effect.

I'll be watching with great interest to see how things turn out. I trust polling less this election vs most elections. Turn out will be key. With the insane level of attack ads this election its clear many will stoop to any level to win, I have to wonder how much shady stuff will occur.

I'll be the most disappointed if Harold Ford doesn't win. He seems like the kind of principled individual we need in Washington.

To justify a gloating thread the Dems would need to nearly sweep the closely contested House seats. Elections in the 6th year of an administration are so stacked against the sitting Presidents party, that anything less than that is a loss for the Dems.

That's really dumb.

By that logic if 40 seats are closely contested and dems win 35, it's more gloatworthy than if 60 are closely contested and they win 45. It's clearly better to win 45.

Elections in the 6th year of an administration are so stacked against the sitting Presidents party, that anything less than that is a loss for the Dems.

And how can picking up the majority in the House be a loss for Dems? Again: really, really dumb. All that matters in the House is being the majority party. The minority sucks hind teat, whether they have 215 seats or 200.

Stop moving the goalposts. An actual failure to win the majority will be a catastrophic loss, but a majority will be a big win.

The only Dem I've ever seen attacked for straying from a party line is Lieberman, and that's cause he sided with the president against legitimate criticism of the war.

wrong. without a Senate majority and a resounding win in the House, its a hollow victory that is meaningless in the context of prior 6th year elections...those results are what set the goalposts.

Apparently, you're interested in the Elections Hall of Fame debate. Most of us are interested in the actual governance of the country. Winning the House will be a huge deal.

As for the senate, I'm again going to call you very very dumb. The senate is currently split 55R-45D, but the Democrats actually have more seats up for reelection this year than the republicans do - 18 to 15. The fact that the Dems have put more than half of those R seats in play is huge.

I'd suggest not relying on Ann Coulter for your historical perspective.

[/ QUOTE ]Well that's certainly a humorous way to spin it. Another would be this:

* Strong Democratic: 18
* Lean Democratic: 2
* Toss-up: 4
* Lean Republican: 2
* Strong Republican: 7

That's how the Senate elections this year are breaking down. 66% Dem and 33% Republican.

There have been no rebuttals to my statement, only dismissals of the relevance of the history of 6th year administrations, erroneous claims that winning the House and not the Senate is "huge", and guesses at the outcome of the election that appear to be based on week old polls.

When a supposedly equal or superior team is spotted 21 points in a game, winning by 10 is nothing to gloat about.

Oh, I see everyone else already spanked you.

I voted democrat this year out of disgust with the republicans (in fact, I made 4 political donations this year after never before having made one) and there are two things I want to see from them: stem cell research and an attempt at a balanced budget. If they can give me those two things they'll have my vote again in 2008.

Not as many as the Dems do.

Republicans are happy to live with the verdict of the voters. Only when Democrat judges, like those on the Florida Supreme Court, decide to rewrite the existing laws of the state legislatures to arrange a result contrary to the choice of the voters, do we need to simply say: "your rewrite is invalid".

Exit polling is the most accurate polling. It should be within 0.5%. When this number varies by much in elections around the world the USA looks on those elections as having voter fraud. It is hard to see where it wouldn't show the same here.

Don't worry, there won't be any election day fraud. That was SO last couple of elections. It's more fashionable to keep Democrats away from the poll than to actually find a way to lose their vote:
RNCC Robocalling voters in an attempt to anger and deceive voters into not voting Democratic.
