12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
I am doing an experiment. I am going to 12-table until I play 1000 tournaments at every level on PartyPoker (yes I am aware that 1000 is not divisible by 12). I will do this until I show a negative ROI (or when I go broke, whatever happens first). I never tried 12-tabling until this experiment, but I find it to be a lot easier than I thought. Sometimes I think I play better in ways because I don't over-think. The only downside is when I have to go the bathroom. I normally have to miss like 4 hands. An empty gatorade bottle has solved this problem nicely (just kidding ).
I already played 1054 at the 10+1 level (keep in mind that my first 300 or so are from when I was a sit and go beginner and knew absolutely jack squat about poker). Here are my stats: 10+1: ROI: 18.41% ROI over the last 916 (more indicative of my new non-beginner skillz that pay the billz as this is after I learned pushbot stuff etc): 23.16% I overall expect that I should have a 23% roi or higher which means that one can make about $33 an hour playing 10+1s. But obviously a person is probably better off killing himself than being a professional 10+1 player. I'm not going to break down into the details of my stats too much but I pretty much own the 10+1s 12 tabling I am a God among the scumbags (just kidding again!). But here is what I ask of the readers and I'm being serious now. Assuming that I don't improve as a player for the rest of the experiment, and all you know is that I'm a 23% roi 10+1 player, what will you predict my results are 12-tabling the final buy-ins based on my ROI in the 10+1s? I will post my results as they happen. 20+2: ?? 30+2: ?? 50+5: ?? 100+9: ?? I would appreciate any thoughtful response to this post. |

If you are simply asking what kind of an ROI you could expect if you jumped straight to the 109s, Id say barely BE at best. Most of what you learn is through starting basic and playing with a basic kind of player. As you move up, the plyrs start to progressively turn more and more TAGish and advanced. This is when you have to develop better methods to exploit other weakness's (skill through experience). Dont get me wrong, there are still tons of fish at every level, but I think you get the point. |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
GL dude!! but why do you want to do this? I don't really understand it, seems kinda silly
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
11s - 25% ROI
20s - 20% ROI 33s - 16% ROI 55s - 13% ROI 109s - 10% ROI 215s - 7% ROI |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
GL, btw, you have way too much time on yer hands.

11s - 20% ROI
20s - 15% ROI 33s - 7% ROI 55s - 3% ROI 109s - -2% ROI 215s - -7% ROI |

why?

Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Congratulations on doubling up every time you push.
Since that can't last forever, I predict you bust out at the 22s. |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Just curiouis. Why is someone better off killing themself than making $33 an hour at the 10's?
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Because if you can make $33 an hour you should probably move up pretty quickly.

[/ QUOTE ] Do you realize that if you worked 50 hrs. a week making $33/hr, then you would be making more than 80K a year? Anyway, this got me thinking. If you could sustain this ROI 12-tabling the 33s, you could make 240K a year. Okay, that's asking a lot, but are there a lot of people making over 100K/year at the 33s? |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
You would have to be superman to 12 table 50 hours a week for an entire year.

But, I guess that's how it goes. |

Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Speeds or regulars?
How many tables have you been playing in the past? |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
If you have the right set up, 12 tabling is very easy. I could easily 20 table the speeds no problem with my set up.
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Wink,
Without even reading what the others are posting... 12 tables regardless of how well you adapt is a lot of tables, if your goal is to get "better" I think you'd be wise to maybe play six tables, post hands etc... if your just doing this for the shats and giggles, then more power to you... good luck |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
I'm not saying he can't do it. I'll just guess different numbers depending on his answers to those questions.
OP, what's the winner get? |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
I normally 8 table, and I have mainly 8 tabled 50+5s.
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Also regulars.
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Ok fine you're probably better off NOT killing yourself. But I think most people who make $33 an hour playing 10+1s can make $60 an hour playing something else.
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Thank you for answering my question seriously!

Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Why do I want to do this?
A) The money is still good for me, and there is very little variance. So it's kind of fun. I'm not Moneybags McGee like all of you high rollers out there. B) I am actually getting better. 12 Tabling is honestly just "more practice per hour" than 8 tabling. I have more all-in pushes to review, more weird hand/flop situations to review, etc. I feel like for some reason I feel like I'm "guessing" better when it comes off to playing back at raisers etc. C)Whenever I feel like taking a break and 8 table a higher-buyin it seems reallllly slow. That is probably a good thing. But yeah also I'm not the smartest person when it comes to maximizing my time and money per hour. |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
I am making a little over $40 an hour playing speed 22's. As soon as I play 100 more I am moving up to the 33's. I think 5 hours a day is possible as long as you take breaks inbetween and play 5-6 days a week. It is just like sports, you cannot train 7 days a week, you need a day off. I would approach poker the same.

Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Nick:
What is your ROI, how many do you play at once, and what is your sample size? |

I normally 8 table, and I have mainly 8 tabled 50+5s. [/ QUOTE ] So you've got stats in the $55s.... Come on, if you're gonna have a game, you gotta have a prize. |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
I have played around 900 in the new format. ROI right now is 11.2% This is all 12 tabling the speeds, I was travelling doing some coaching up until June, so just about 1.5 months work of playing.
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Hey Nick,
What stakes? Perhaps you should, you know, consider playing fewer tables. citanul |
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Just 22's, although my bankroll is over 100 buy-ins of 109's I made a goal of playing 1000 22's and will move up soon to 33's and hopefully be a 55 regular. I do work about 10-12 hours a day teaching tennis for $85/hr in this Vegas heat, so it is hard to put a lot of poker hours in.
|
Re: 12 Tabling Experiment: 1000 sample of each buy-in
Why mention making 85 bucks an hour teaching tennis when any decent SnG pro makes 4X that in the comfort of his home?
