\'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
Please stop this nonsense. I can only presume people say this to legitimise to themselves their poor bankroll skills and/or lack of poker ability. If you are sensible and good at poker, you will not go bust, barring extraordinary cirumstances requiring you to withdraw sums from your bankroll for life costs. Going bust is not part of the poker playing process, there are many sensible people out there who never have and never will, please get this into your heads.

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
You are the only one I have read that says it so . . . .your part of the problem. :-)

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
No I'm pretty sure it comes from Knish and SS1.

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
I don't think I exaggerate when I say that this is the worst thread in the history of online message boards.
|
Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
This was true before internet poker came along, with internet poker, and all the new poker tools/books/etc, it is less likely to happen.

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
Greg Raymer and Barry Greenstein had a reasonably interesting discussion about this during the WCOOP main-event web-cast.

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
Dean,
If "BUSTO" means that you have exactly zero bets for any game, then I agree with you. but I think that definition doesn't really tell the whole story. |
Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
I propose that this be replaced by the Irieguy quote..
[ QUOTE ] Everybody will eventually run worse than they thought was possible. [/ QUOTE ] I have never been busto..but I also play with 3X the BR requirement than most people |
Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
The nature of poker suggests that everyone overrates themselves. This means that ~90% of players will believe at one point or another that bankroll requirements don't apply to them.
This leads to going bust more often than not So, a very large percentage of poker players will go bust at one point or another |
Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
This depends on how you define going bust. If it just means that you have to top up once at a site, after your initial deposit, then most will go bust at some point. Or if it means that at some point your poker net winnings are negative, then early on virtually all players will be bust at some point. If it means that you lose all money you can reasonably afford to gamble with them most decent players will never go bust.

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
I was bust the day before I started a bankroll for poker. In my first few months, I ran too well while playing underrolled. I didn't go bust but I probably could have.
EDIT: The subject line could be translated as the following: "Most solid players have played with a greater than x% risk of ruin at one point in their careers.", where x should be replaced by an inappropriately large number. |
Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
Going BUST can just be a good learning experience. Most poker players start out timid, fishy, passive, overaggressive....extreme of some sort. Add a swing of variance and poof, busto. It happens. Just build a new bankroll and start again. The main point is that SOLID players will end higher than where they began, regardless of a fews busts along the way.

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
Its easy to talk about bankroll management and say ur 1000bb roll is enough. Hit a 650bb downswing and all of a sudden your 1000bb roll is 350bb. Fail to aknowledge the fact that it doesnt necessarily have to get better any time soon and you can find yourself busto pretty quickly. This is what i experienced in may and without your help Dean. I could very well have found myself among the ranks of those claiming everyone goes broke every now and then. Thankfully you helped me to understand what bankroll management is all about before I had to learn it the really hard way. Thanks.

Re: \'Every poker has been bust at least once\'
Maybe change the topic to this:
"Every poker player whose ego won over BR management fundamentals has been bust at least once." Moving down in limits doesn't mean your "little pokey" is going to shrink. |

"Every poker player whose ego won over BR management fundamentals has been bust at least once." [/ QUOTE ] God this is true. (Shakes head and cries over almost 40 buyin tilt spew at the $20+1 NLHE 1v1 at stars) I spewed through an entire bankroll, redeposited and spewed all the way down to like 2 buyins before I fixed my tilt and got back on track. I'm now playing on DBPN at what is essentially play money $0.10 SNGs while I put my chit back together. My little pokey does feel significantly smaller |
