Cubs self-destruction thread

Wind is blowing hard out of Wrigley, the cubs touch up Smoltz for four runs in the first, and then Jae Kuk Ryu gives up 3 homers and a double in the 2nd.

Top 1st: Atlanta
- E. Renteria homered to deep center
Top 2nd: Atlanta
- A. LaRoche homered to deep right center
- R. Langerhans homered to deep right
- M. Giles homered to deep left, J. Smoltz and T. Pratt scored

Re: Cubs self-destruction thread

In comes Glendon Rusch, who has given up 11 homers in 33 innings.

let's see if francouer gets more walks in this series than the rest of the year combined.

Jack,
This doesn't change the fact that the Cubs fans that are present will still have fun and get drunk.

A new record set yesterday for attendance, I think they said it was the most since '78.

Why do I keep watching.

Lifelong Cubs fan. I wish I could quit and root for the Cardinals or somebody decent. Being a Cubs fan is sort of like having a heroin addiction. The only difference is that there is never a high when it comes to being a Cubs fan.

WHY ARE YOU SENDING A CATCHER FROM 2ND ON JEFF FRANCOEUR?

Man that would have been sweet if Pratt got up and forearmed Barrett to the jaw.

People like watching train wrecks and comedy. Its sort of like in Major League when none of the players can play baseball and are having collisions in the outfield trying to catch balls. Bad baseball was funny in the movie and is funny with the cubs.

Because the Cubs only scout is looking for the next Tuffy Rhodes and didn't realize Francouer has the best arm in baseball????

Tied their team record, which was also against the Cubs. I'm rooting for them to break it now.

The Cubs have now scored 14 runs (thru the 6th inning today) in this 3 game series vs. Atlanta. Sadly, that's the most they've scored in any series (2, 3 or 4 games) since D.Lee went down April 19.

Jack of Arcades 05-28-2006 05:28 PM

Re: Cubs self-destruction thread

I like how they're talking about the braves 17 ks, as if they're offense sucks. "Yeah, they hit 8 homers, but they struck out 17 times!"

Uh, yeah. But um... if they scored 12 runs, maybe 17 strikeouts isn't so much of a bad thing.

Russ M. 05-28-2006 05:32 PM

Re: Cubs self-destruction thread

Now lets watch the Cubs give up 8 homers in a game, hit zero themselves, come back to tie in the bottom of the 9th, and still lose.

"Just goes to show you that there are two ways to make an offense."

Braves: 2nd in NL in runs scored
Cubs: last.

mcbride, I guess, but it's not like this team has anybody that's really better than reitsma.

Funny sidenote :

My friend is a HUGE Braves fan, and by sheer fortune got them for his 13 run pool(every person has a team, 1st team to score 0-13 runs in a game wins).

The only score he needs left to win the pool is 12

Re: Cubs self-destruction thread

Seriously, the problem with the Cubs? They have four second baseman on the field today: Hairston in right, Bynum in left, walker at first, and womack at 2nd.

The games are just hilarious to watch right now. It's a beautiful trainwreck.

Re: Cubs self-destruction thread

It's pretty bad that they don't have an above average 2nd baseman somewhere in that scrap heap. Not one of those guys is even in the top 10 2B in the NL.

I don't mind T. Walker at all, but the rest are pathetic.

Jack of Arcades 05-28-2006 06:58 PM

Re: Cubs self-destruction thread

the rest are the same exact player, and the same exact player dusty has been stockpiling his whole career - fast, versatile, black players that can't get on base. Tom F. Goodwin, anyone?

mblax10 05-28-2006 07:18 PM

Re: Cubs self-destruction thread

Dusty dosen't like guys who can get on-base. Ronny Cedeno and Matt Murton were critized by the coaching staff this year for being too patient at the plate.
