Default Defining a Poker Session

If you intend on paying your taxes this year, how do you define a poker session? Please do not answer this question if you do NOT plan on filing your taxes.

If you have advice from a tax professional, please post.

Actually, this is a good question. I wonder what's an acceptable answer in view of properly filling out a tax return.

You forgot one option:

Net profit/loss at each game type and level for the course of a day.

How do you get PT to give you those figures?

I don't recall, I did it for my taxes. I would filter by limit then go to the report that combined my dates. I then exported that to an excel sheet. I think there was a detailed desctiption posted on the PT formum as well as a pearl script that did it automatically.

Getting Sessions Summaries w/ PT:

[/b] Net/profit loss for each table:
File -> Ring Game Stats -> Session Notes Tab
Session Detail Subheading -> Click the small P -> Click Export... -> Export '$ Won' to an Excel File

Net/profit loss for each day:
Look at this post.

The way you define a session makes a HUGE difference.

A session defined as the net profit/loss during one day:
Total Wins: $20,939.27
Total Losses: $14,107.27
Net: $6,832.00

A session defined as the net profit/loss for each table:
Total Wins: $41,277.87
Total Losses: $34,445.91
Grand Total: +$6,831.96

I'm choosing to define a session as the net profit/loss during a day. Thoughts?

I wrote an article about the definition of an online session. I have a feeling many online players won't like the conclusion I came to. The article is available here.

The rules for the online world are identical to the brick & mortar world (for taxes) unless there's a specific regulation stating otherwise.

Actually Russ, the ones I know used your article to do the per/day at each limit/game. They 4-8 table the same limit in one continuous session for 4-8 hours and take the result, from all the tables into one session. They just let PT do the math and record keeping.

BTW, your work and writings are much apprciated.
