Default Richard Marcus\' Dirty Poker

KLASTV in Las Vegas posted this article to Richard Marcus's new book about cheating in poker. The video makes him come across like Chicken Little. The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Gotta love sensational reporting. We'll see if Marcus's book will reveal anything new on March 15th.

Since I live in Seattle, what do Vegas gamblers think of this guy? On his website it says:

[ QUOTE ]

Upon arriving in Las Vegas he supported himself solely through legitimate gambling. However, Richard soon found himself broke and homeless, living under a highway overpass. In dire straights, he sought gainful employment in the only industry he had knowledge of, becoming a Blackjack and Baccarat dealer. Armed with experience on both sides of the tables, Richard met his mentor to be, Joe Classon. In his early twenties, Richard embarked on his career as a professional casino cheater... Richard lacks any traditional education to boast of because he was too busy gambling and hustling to ever have had the time to go to school.

[/ QUOTE ]

I get the impression that this guy is not a good gambler. Instead of working hard, or lacking ability, he learned to cheat. In other words, this guy is a hack. However, he is smart enough to write books. Not a bad idea, I suppose.

American Roulette by him was an excellent read. I'll buy this just because i enjoyed his other book so much. Btw could you guess he is sensationalizing the topic of poker cheating to sell books? That is how he makes a living.

I did get the sensation that he really didn't know what he was talking about, he came across like an old scared nit who is too afraid to turn on a computer to me. It seemed as if he doesn't know the difference between a word processor and a food processor.

I'll admit to enjoying the book, but he was hardly someone that an aspiring romantic cheat would want to emulate. Most of his play seems to boil down to stealing a couple of chips from the pot, or from someone else's stack and it was this that made the book believable.

The Eudaemonic Pie was a much more romantic enterprise IMO.
