I think it's pretty much accepted conventional wisdom that Christopher Guest's movies get a little bit worse with each one he makes (Tap>Guffman>Best in Show>Mighty Wind), so I wasn't expecting very much. In that sense, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that For Your Consideration did not completely suck. In fact, there were several good moments and some very good performances from Catherine O'Hara, Harry Shearer, John Michael Higgins, Fred Willard, and Jane Lynch. Eugene Levy is starting to get on my nerves a little, and Guest himself as a performer didn't do much for me.
All in all, if you enjoy his films you should like it just fine, just don't expect the world. EDIT: OK, I thought that the fact that there was a new Christopher Guest movie out wasn't obscure, but maybe it is. So anyway, Christopher Guest has a new movie out that he co-wrote with Eugene Levy, directs, and appears in. All the usual suspects are in the cast, it's about the making of a movie that receives early Oscar buzz while it's still in production - hence, For Your Consideration, which is what studios etc put in their advertisements in the trade papers when they want Oscar nominations. The movie itself was OK. |

Since Best in Show is the best of the movies you listed, your theory is screwed.

You seriously think Best in Show is better than Spinal Tap? I mean, I'm willing to entertain the argument that it's better than Guffman (while I'll still disagree), but better than Tap? Come on, now.

[/ QUOTE ] I think it's close (I saw Spinal Tap a long time ago), but I think Best in Show is pretty well flawless. |
