Default Trip Report: new Riverwind Casino (Norman, OK)

Well, this thing finally opened this week. Very excited as I've heard good things about it and its close instead of 20 miles away (it's right off a major interstate and closest casino to the Oklahoma City Metro area. It's just off I-35 south of Norman.

First impressions: Freaking huge! The casino is massive. Also, it's nutty busy. The traffic was backed onto the interstate exit ramp. Really nice inside. The building is nicely done.

Poker room: here we go. Really nice room. It's railed off from the main room, but still right out surrounded by acres of the real idiot boxes (slots, don't even get me started ont these things) so it's pretty loud, which is a bummer.

The have a nice up front desk, I get on the 1/2 list. They have 23 tables and it's almost full at 7 on a Friday. I think they were just waiting for deadlers. Also, 3/6 LHE and they have interest lists for 4/8 and 6/12, but I don't think they ever got tables free to get these going. A buttload of 1/2 NL, 5 tables of 2/5 and a 5/10 NLHE! I stood and watched this while waiting to be called. Insane. $500 min/ $2000 max. While I watched it was pretty tight.

Soon they opened a new table. Nice chairs and table. Dealers were still a little rough (seemed like changeovers took forever!).

BAD BEAT: beers are $4! this include crap like bud, etc. That's nuts. They do have a soda fountain (self serve) near the poker room.

As for my play, well, not so good. Honestly, I should have asked for a table change. Too many good players, not enough fish, and I'm quite sure that wasn't the norm. Anyway, I did ok. Got burnt badly on this hand (coments?)

AKo on Cutoff. 2 limper in front. I raise to 12. BB calls (really good player). This guy seems really good and has already taken me down with a big reraise on an earlier hand. Flop AQ6 2 spades. OK.. He bets 15 into me. I decide to just call. I'm put him on a flush draw, and obv. I can just shove a big bet here and he'll fold, but I decide I'm going to wait until the turn (which is pref. non spade.). Turn is, of course, a 10 spades. Crap. He checks. Here's where I blew the hand, I think. I got scared of flush, I should have bet. Anway, I check, river is a fourth spade. I have none. He bets a big bet into me, I eventually fold and curse myself for trying to win a huge pot instead of a small one.

Did have one nice hand: Ultra rock (elderly dude, wouldn't ya know) is two to my left and someone he knew was one to my left (he was pretty tight him self). I'd have rather had these dudes to my right, obv., but it was still nice to have such easy to read dudes close. Anway, I'm in the SB with j7o and its raised to $7 in front, there's two callers, so I see a flop. He does too, after some thought. Flop is J7blank rainbow. I check, late pos guy bets $10. I call, rocky BB calls. Turn was a 10. I lead out $15 (i want to see if someone made the straight. BB calls (!!) and button folds. River is a beautiful, beautiful 7. I think a while. BB has about what I have left, and I only have $37. I decide this guys a rock, he must have made the straight on the turn and I think he'll pay off my boat, I shove all in. He insta calls, I turn over J7, and proudly slams down A7 and smiles.. The look on his face that replaces his smile is kinda priceless as I say "umm, I've got a boat". I think he forgot about the J and thought he had me outkicked.

Anyway, his rock buddy decided to be mad at me for him. Ended up down about $100 overall, as I lost some medium pots after pots. We were all disapointed when the uberfish left after donking his stack to like $500, including calling an all in for like $120 with an inside straight draw (q7o on a AKT board -- he got runer runner for a flush to beat AK).

I will def. be back.

Nice Report.

I was driving up I-35 and decided to stop in to look around. Nice place. Looks like a remodeled Super Wal-Mart (big box). I had the same impression of poker room...can't believe they jammed those slots up against the poker room walls, however slot machines built this place.

Saw the 5-10 NL game going mid-day, mid-week. This is a pretty big game for broke-ass okies.

If the DFW peeps get tired of Winstar, this one might be worth the trip.

yeah. It's run by the same tribe as winstar. I forgot to mention that they were running satellites for the Red River Roundup at windstar ($500,000 pool guarnteed I think) which will feature Raymer and Willams (with 5k bounties). They had $150 single tables and had a super sat earlier that afternoon that was in the final stages when I got there. The entry fee for that is $1,100 and it's late August.
