323 lbs...

This is the biggest I have ever been in my life, and I am feeling the effects both mentally and physically. I am writing this in hopes to restart my motivation of being healthy.

Backstory:

I graduated high school in '01 weighing ~260lbs. During my 2nd year at college I made the cheerleading squad (que the gay jokes and I'll respond with pics of girls).

Noticing I needed to be in better shape I got a gym membership and began a serious diet/excerise plan for the first time in my life. I started this weighing 267lbs. In about 4 months I was at 227lbs, and all of a sudden I quit everything; working out, eating right etc.

I dont really know why I quit. I was feeling great and I was the skinniest I can ever remember. Reading Dids' story has got me thinking about this a lot lately. I have every reason in the world to get healthy. I am mostly scared of not living past 40 to see both of my daughters get married. (I am 24)

Hopefully with some tough kicks in the ass, which I am sure a few of you will give me, I will get my lard ass up and do something about it.

Dids, congrats on your successes so far and take solice in the fact you have at least got my attention focused back on being healthy. I will soon give you credit for motivating my ass to eat right and work out, once again.

Thanks
Ben

post pics of girls and good luck. I also needed that kick in the butt but now that I'm working out and eating right I've lost about 4 pounds in a week. Just don't quit again.

if you weigh that much you should start swimming. try 1 lap tomorrow, then try to swim 2 the next day. It's extremely high intensity cardiovascular exercise, but given your current size you'll probably float ;-). It will get you used to working your heart and lungs which will give you the ability to do tough 60-minute full body strength workouts (squats, deadlifts, bench, military) 2 or 3 days a week. Either that or start running, but the running is going to take a LOT longer to burn those calories and I wouldn't want to be your knees after about a mile.

cut down your diet. that is a huge thing that will help you lose weight. if you exercise at the same time, you can eat more, so obviously exercise is huge here too, but i can only give you advice on the eating aspects.

it's all about calories in vs calories out. you have to be extremely motivated to do what i'm doing (1200 cals/day) so you should probably start at like 1800 so you don't fall off.

remember, you could technically eat a few big macs and total those calories, but here's why it's not as simple as that.

you'll be hungry all day if you eat high calorie small mass foods. in order for you to be full all day, you have to eat clean foods. you'll soon start learning to look at foods like "is that food worth it?" for example, if i see a donut, i'm like, wow that's 1/3rd of my daily requirements. sure it'll taste good, but why waste that much for a few bites when i can have a huge can of soup and 2 chicken breasts for the same cals.

also, getting healthy is just as important. so basically, the goal of feeling full while staying in your calorie requirements forces you to eat clean foods and help your body become healthier.

there are tons of sites out there that you can punch in age, height, and weight (how tall are you?) and will tell you your metabolic rate (how many cals you burn/day). all you have to do is get a negative deficit.

good luck. the rest of the guys can help you with the exercise aspect.

Thanks guys. Nation is there a website you use to get rough calorie estimations?

On my last 'diet' routine I never did count calories. It seems like the only thing I ate though was chicken, tuna, veggies, fruit and a protein shake everyday.

Do any of you have any other motivational sayings you tell yourself everyday?

A few of mine:
Eat to live instead of living to eat.
Being healthy consist of several decisions everyday and each decision matters.

I'm 6'1".

I used this free site for many years: http://www.fitday.com/

I recently bought their software, it's also pretty good for only $30.

Tim, thanks for the website. I have decided to get an account there and make it public for anyone who wants to track my progress.

I am currently looking for a low carb protein bar. Here is one I have used before and it was pretty tasty.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l116/phiphika1453/untitled-2.jpg

If you cant read the picture here is the link to the LABEL (javascript:showPopUp('http://GNC.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pGNC1-3529301_gnclabel_pdf.pdf','GNC_Label','width=640,h eight=480,left=100,top=0,toolbar=no,directories=no ,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes '))

Here is the list of extra ingredients:

Other Ingredients: Protein Blend (Whey Protein Concentrate, Acid Casin, Calcium Caseinate), Maltitol Syrup, Glycerin, Peanut Flour, Maltodextrin, Oligofructose, Sesame Oil, Xanthan Gum, Sucralose, Salt, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Tricalcium Phosphate, Water, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Coating -- (Maltitol, Fractionated Palm Kernel Oil, Whey Protein Concentrate, alkalized cocoa powder, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavors, Soy Lecithin, Sucralose)

Is there anything I should know about a bar like this?

Also its $21.53/bx of 12 w/ a gold club membership at GNC.
