Possible? Technically, yes. Not a good idea unless you're insane.

To get to the Rio for free more quickly and comfortably, walk north along the strip to the Paris and take the shuttle to the Rio (http://www.caesars.com/Paris/LasVegas/Hotel/Services/FreeShuttle.htm). The Paris is the second casino north from the MGM.

They're about two miles apart.

You would be an idiot to make that trek.

This walk is easily doable. But, you don't want to do it once it gets above 95 degrees. Bring a bottle of water with you if you do.

I routinely walk 1-2 miles even on the hottest days. But, I'm used to it. Everyone posting "you can't walk from here to here" are pansies.

Cab will be like $10. If you are palying a $1500 MTT I think you could afford to spring for a cab ride. Also you don't want to exhaust yourslef right before palying what could be some of the most important poker of your life.

My 2 cents.

but the cab up LV blvd will be going 1.5X the speed of walking.

I walked from the rio to treasure island once (a little more than half that distance i think) and it was pretty much like taking a trip through hell as it was 100 degrees plus outside. It is doable, but you definately need to bring water, and if you can't stand the heat forget about it. After the sun goes down it should be fine, but it will still take about half an hour to get there.

The nicest part of having the WSOP in July this year is the fact that it's the quietest time of year in Vegas. Traffic isn't as bad; restaurant reservations aren't as bad; casinos aren't as crowded; etc.

And while you may think that having a few thousand people all in one place for a poker tournament is a lot, consider that Vegas routinely has conventions with 5-10x this many people...

Here's the ticket. Walk to Paris or Bally's from MGM.

I agree it is doable. But if you're going to be playing in a WSOP event, I wouldn't walk it.

I finally met an old Net friend who qualified for a seat at Bellagio $25k this year. He stayed at Tropicana (paid by the site). He only brought $250. Some of these online qualifiers can barely afford the trip...even with room and buyin paid. Bless their souls, though.

If you're going to walk it, do it when the sun's not fully out. Walking it at high noon, for example, would be challenging to anyone who's not used to walking any distance.

Also, you have to cross the on-ramps to the Interstate to get there, which can be interesting.

I have done it a couple of times.

The last time, the cash in my front pocket was so soaked by sweat that the bill machine in the Rio Buffet would not recognize it as money.

I think those seated at your table would prefer you didn't walk it. Unless you want to be remembered as the guy in seat 3 who really needed a shower.

This was in the paper 2 years ago. I forget which issue though.

Whether it's 'possible' or not is kind of a vague question.

It's 'possible' I could walk from Memphis to Las Vegas.

MGM to Rio walking would probably be 45 minutes I'm guessing. Perhaps longer. Pretty good hike.

crossing over the interstate with all those car-exhaust fumes was a big negative for me.

When you get to the Rio you will likely be quite sweaty.

I walked from Wynn to MGM which might be about as far.
I also walked from Rio to Bellagio.

Yeah, it's doable. But in the heat that doesn't mean it's going to be very pleasant. And showing up for a WSOP event all sweaty kind of sucks imo (for you AND your opponents).

I go with MB on this one. First time I came to Vegas on vcation(yes came, live here now), my buddy and I stayed at the Strat. We walked from there, drinking and gambling in most every casino all the way to Bally's when it was 85-90 outside in early Oct 2002. That was rough and that's not a "huge" distance. 2 miles maybe.

OP, dont even try this. Spend 15 bucks on a cab. About a month ago, I took a cab from MGM to Rio for dinner, was $12 for the 3 of us to go in the early evening (7pm). It's cheap.

if you want to be extra lazy you could possibly take the monorail at MGM to the station where the IP/Harrah's is and then catch the shuttle at harrahs. Might be less walking. Either way cabs in Vegas aren't too brutal.

Last year in late June my wife and I walked from Bellagio to the Tropicana where we were staying. The sign at the Boardwalk said it was midnight and the temperature was 97 degrees. I was sweat soaked, which puzzled me since we were in the desert and it's supposed to be low humidity. Then I looked around and said to myself, "Duh! There's fountains and waterfalls everywhere and the golf courses are watering."

During the day it will easily be 110 degrees. If you can't afford a cab, take a camel. You will smell just as bad, but you won't be as exhausted.

I've walked from MGM to Bellagio and Bellagio to Rio. But I wouldn't walk MGM to Rio.
