Playing a more passive style in MSNL
It's not much news that 2+2ers and most other serious poker players are, or have at some point been, obsessed with PT stats.
It's not uncommon for someone posting their stats with an AF of around 2 to be questioned about their success due to their low AF. But is playing a passive style of perhaps 25/20/2 a recipe for disaster, or are people just too hooked up on stats? Do you know anyone who is a successful MSNL or HSNL player that plays a more passive style than commonly recommended? This has probably been discussed before but I couldn't find any thread about it. If you know any threads feel free to link me up tata |

Re: Playing a more passive style in MSNL
pretty sure it doesn't really matter what you do preflop within limits as long as your postflop play doesn't suck.

Re: Playing a more passive style in MSNL
I actually meant a more passive post flop style, with a total AF of maybe 2 or so.

[ QUOTE ]
i like to bet, fish like to call, i win $ [/ QUOTE ] I like to check/call, aggro 2p2ers like to bluff bet, i win $ Just depends on your opponent. I've played a significant amount of hands with a couple guys with AF's lower than 1 that are decent winners over my sample at least, and it boggles my mind. A lot of styles can win. As someone else said, post flop decisions really are what matter the most. I played aces the other day completely passively vs a known aggro 2p2er and he shoved his whole stack in on the river with nothing and berated me after the hand. I play it normal, I don't get his stack. That being said, aggro >> passive in general. I don't think and AF of 2 is bad though, its just kinda average. Nothing wrong with that. Mark |

Re: Playing a more passive style in MSNL
To add a question:
As you may have figured out I feel as if my AF is a bit low (at the low 2s or slightly below). I don't feel like I'm playing bad though, but I would like to open up my aggression more post flop. I'm sure more of you have been more passive in the past than you are now. Can anyone share their experience with going from a 1-2 TAF to a 3-5? Is there anything in your thought process that you changed, and did you find anything specific that may have been the cause of your passiveness? tata |

Re: Playing a more passive style in MSNL
what sort of sample size are you talking?
so far for me tight agressive passive works well at NL100, over just over 10k sample im at 1.2 agg post flop. the main reason is i feel people give me there money more this way. i check call and they bluff off there chips when i have hands, and then when i have big hands and bet pot i get called cause they feel im bluffing cause im usually so passive. although that being said im only at 4.5bb/100 |

Re: Playing a more passive style in MSNL
the main problem with a more passive approach is it makes you much easier to read. you are building pots seldomly and it becomes transparent.

Re: Playing a more passive style in MSNL
Answer to your question:
passive play can be profitable if the player can make good reads etc. However, playing passive doesn't give a player freedom to change gears enough. Playing aggressive, changing gears, is MORE profitable. Playing passive can be profitable. Playing aggressive is more profitable. |

Re: Playing a more passive style in MSNL
My total AF is 2.48. I'm guessing that's a little low. What are other people's?
