Standard BB call gets messy
Hollywood Poker $2-$4
Hero is in Big Blind with 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] one fold, UTG+1 calls , one fold, MP1 raises , MP2 cold calls , Three Folds, Small blind folds, Hero calls , UTG+1 re-raises , MP1 caps , MP2 calls , Hero calls First of all, how's this line for my hand? Should I have folded? My hand is suited and there is alot of action before it gets to me so I figured, standard call here. Should I have been less likely to call with one person still active and my hand, despite it's suited-ness, being otherwise weak? Flop: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Hero checks , UTG+1 Bets, MP1 Raises, MP2 Three Bets, Hero Caps , UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls Was I being too aggressive here? Given the three bet by MP2, would it have been fair to think I might be behind? Turn: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Hero checks , UTG+1 checks, MP1 Bets, MP2 Raises, Hero? This is where I should have dumped, right? |

Re: Standard BB call gets messy
I fold it preflop to any raise, every time. Horrible call IMO. It's ok to defend...sometimes, but come on. 4-2?
MP2 had pocket 10s? |

Re: Standard BB call gets messy
It wouldn't be too bad to defend 42s if you had a couple more callers. By the turn someone, probably MP2, has got TT or AT. I can't think of any other hands he might play this way. I think you gotta let it go, this action doesn't look like its slowing down.

Re: Standard BB call gets messy
The first preflop call is fine imo. I fold when it gets back capped though.
I really hate MP2 3-bets the flop. You're almost certainly ahead of UTG+1 and MP2, but MP2 is pretty likely to hold TT/44/22. Still these are only 5 combos. Another concern is that if you're ahead you're most often drawing dead, against 1 combo you're drwing to 2 outs. but when you're ahead the others have at least 6 outs on the flop and 9 outs on the turn. Given how you played the turn is a must fold. |

Re: Standard BB call gets messy
I think you still need at least one more player in to call there preflop. Personally, I'd like 5-6 players in to call a raise in the BB with a hand like 42s. I understand your thinking but I think you need more.

Getting 7-1 on your money is a HORRIBLE call? Really?

Re: Standard BB call gets messy
The rest of the hand still has to be played out. Sure he's getting 7-1 now. But what do you hope to accomplish with a freaking 42s? Hit the low flush and pay it off to a larger one? How about bottom 2 pair as in this case, and lose a ton of money to an obvious set?

2 faults
So: 2 faults
1. Calling this raise with only two player in the pot is -EV. Up to three it's +EV (f.ex. any suited or any middle or low pair). 2. Calling a cap with that crap. 42s is no cap hand at all. |

Re: 2 faults
OK. So like I say, I'm trying to fix some leaks in my game. I need four people in a raised pot to call any suited cards out of the big blind and when it is capped, I should throw the hand away even if I'm getting 7:1 on my money? Right?
