Good example of folding equity to make a play profitable?
I've read on here about the concept of using folding equity to make an otherwise unprofitable play +EV. Can you guys tell me if this is a good example of that or a good waste of chips? Villain is basically unknown (is that a problem for this type of play?) other then that he has seems to have an aversion to limping, his VP$IP and PFR are nearly identical.
Party Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.50/$1 5 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $357.11 Hero: $94.06 Button: $135.53 SB: $108.20 BB: $156.05 Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is CO with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG calls, Hero raises to $5, Button folds, SB raises to $15.5, 2 folds, Hero calls. Reload to a full stack.
Then fold. PF. And the Flop. |

With his reraise villian is telling he has a big pair - AA or KK probably. Unknown villian is a BIG problem. Unless you know villian is capable of laying down his overpair you cannot make this move.

Look like you dont have any fold equity here unless he is on a complete bluff.

this has a lot of fold equity if villian is a thinking 2p2er.
but i agree with Jam. Fold PF, fold the flop. |

Re: Good example of folding equity to make a play profitable?
this wasnt the good exapmle you were hoping for. a good example is a hand like a combo draw where someone bets and you push because it is most likely even money. so if called you will win half the time. when the other guy folds your +EV is the dead money in the pot. so its basically a win win for you.
a mid pair which is now openended with 2 overs on the board does not achieve this |

Re: Good example of folding equity to make a play profitable?
You don't have fold equity because villain is not folding any big pair here for $48 more.

Re: Good example of folding equity to make a play profitable?
Don't see what the problem with this is play is. We have an aggressive villain who could have AK or loads of random [censored]. Hero goes all in and if villain happens to have an overpair/set then we have 8 outs.
I don't expect him to fold an overpair, but if OPs range is AK/QQ+ then this is surely +EV. |
