Default Micro stud hand

Playing Horse on UB (couldn't get converter to work right)Stud hi just started. Villian is unknown he's played a couple razz hands but thats all, but leaked 14 BB in just a few hands. The limit is .5-.10. 5 handed

Hero:3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and is the bring-in

mucked to villian who has XXA [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and raises.

mucked to hero who defends. Bad call?

I have other points in this hand I'd like to ask about later

I'm also a stud newb, so I don't know the answer.

It may depend on how "live" your hearts and 3s are (or it may not if this is a basic hand).

How many players were left to act when he completed? How live are hearts/3's/7's?

All this is relevant, but in general I don't see much wrong with defending a possible steal here as long as you're careful on the later streets.

Hi,

To answer your question correctly.... we must know the size ante in the game.

If there was no ante then just fold and move onto the next hand.

If there is something in the pot making the hand worth defending... then either reraising or just calling with the intention of raising on a lter street is fine. (and to make that call we must know opponents tendencies)

I am going to go out on a limb here and say since this was micro.. there wasn't anything much in the pot(in terms of bets) so fold and move on.

Ante stealing is a very imporant concept in stud.. and so is defending against it... however I have seen many small stakes players bleed money away trying to defend against it when the pot size just doesn't warrant it.

Regards,

CJ

I dont particularly like defending this hand, even though 3s and 7s and hearts are live, You only hit a 7 or a 3 5/42 times. A heart wont help much because the odds of picking up 2 more hearts in 3 more cards isnt very good, and it means you commit yourself to defending until sixth street most of the time.

[/ QUOTE ]Also the size of the bring in, correct? It's been a while since I've played on UB, but I seem to remember their structure being VERY loose.

so 5 players at .01 = 5 cents
I will assume the bring in is 2 cents
so thats 7 cents
completion from villian adds 5 cents
thats 12 cents
costs hero 3 cents to call
12/3 is 4 to 1

I would call in this instance and see how 4th developes.

If any of my assumptions are off, or this game has some non standard stud rules I am unaware of then my answer would revert.

I play $10-20 and $20-40 live so talking about pennies is rather weird.. but concepts still apply.

Regards,

CJ
