Default Major life decision: Should I move to Atlantic City or Las Vegas?

To make a long story short, I am being forced to move away from home in a few months (probably for the best) and have decided to take a shot at being a dealer/player in one of the two aforementioned places.

AC pros
-------

-Only 2 hours away from home, so I would still be able to see my friends and family frequently. There are no other conceivable pros.

AC cons
-------

-Scummy, depressing people everywhere.

-Dangerous surrounding areas.

-Shortage of action during the week.

LV pros
-------

-Americas Playground, I've always loved the look and style of this city even when I was very young.

-Right in the center of the poker world. I'd be able to watch the whole world series first hand, etc...

LV cons
-------

-Too far away from home to visit frequently. I'm not exactly good at making new friends. I fear I will become isolated. Nothing much else bothers me about the idea.

If you were in my situation, what would you do? Should I also be considering LA? I really don't like the idea of living there but I heard it might be the best place in the US for a player. It's certainly the most expensive place to live of the three. Speaking of which, does anyone know if housing is generally cheaper in AC or LV?

Please share any and all opinions you have on any part of this topic. The more feedback I can get the more confident I'll feel about my decision. Thanks a lot!

AC is significantly cheaper. It's a depressed city, Las Vegas isn't. AC must get good action from Philly and NYC during the week ?

Try AC first. If you don't like dealing/playing it will be easier to bail out. If you do like it then LV is the place to be.

Vegas is so much better than AC in every way that I think it outweighs the distance considerations. At least it would for me, no questions asked.

you dont need to live IN atlantic city if you work there. Surrounding areas arent scummy. You can live in egg harbor, absecon, galloway, etc. They are all <10 miles away.

Vegas can be a somewhat harsh sorta place to be completely on your own, particularly if things don't work out very well for you. It's a risk. The very fact that the OP is worrying about being too far from friends and family suggests he ain't completely comfy being on his own far from his old support structure. But...

It's hard to imagine anybody who would prefer to work in AC and live nearby instead of Vegas (yeah, yeah, there do exist such people, but they're strange). I think the OP basically has the pro's and con's about right. He has to juggle them himself to figure out what's important and what he's ready for. AC would be the jump into the shallow end. Vegas would be the dive into the deep end.

Seriously..

Choose option 3:

"3: stay home and work at McDonalds"

If you have to survey an online message board to figure out what the proper "major life decision" for you is...

Well, honestly, if you cant make this decision, then you wont be a good poker player.

So save your money and stay home.

This is your first post ever? You registered just so you could make this snarky comment?

Yes, you are so the man. So superior to the OP who was asking for some legitimate real life advice.
