I have 2 children (2.7 yrs and 9 months) and the one thing I found to be the biggest help with battling collick and sleepless nights was a book by Dr. Harvey Karp called "The Happiest Baby on the Block". I saw him on Oprah once (when you are expecting for the first time, you do a lot of very unexpected things) and it was amazing how he could calm a crying baby. The book was amazing and everyone I've recommended it to has thanked me afterwards.

Any other parents on this board use it?

You can read reviews here for it: Happiest Baby on the Block

Yes! We saw a huge difference after just the first night. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a baby that has trouble falling asleep or settling down.

Thanks to Dcasper who saw my reference to my pregnant wife elsewhere and shot me a PM - had no clue there was a thread around this! Figured I'd join the party...

First, congrats to those who have had their kids. And sympathies to Hopey, Jamzfive and others who've had troubles... I felt a huge range of emotions reading through this thread, tearing up a few times for different reasons.

Wife and I are expecting our 1st on 5/25/07 - a boy we're going to name Will (after my father, William). He's the 1st grandchild on my side, the 6th on the wife's side.

She's just starting her 3rd trimester, and is getting HUGE! Seriously, she's larger than a few women at work who are 1-3 months further along. And I'm really starting to feel the baby kick and squirm around under her skin...

Fun stuff...

I hope you did not point this out to her.

It has begun...

My wife is 2cm dialated -went to the doctor's today and he said "there is a good chance that you will be in labor by the morning"! If she isn't having contractions by 8am tomorrow, I was planning on going to work, since I work for a magazine and we are on deadline next week. But the thing is, my work is about 24 miles away (50 minutes average commute). This is our second child, and I heard that the second labor can go fast. I am sure that in the middle of the day, I can speed and do the commute in 30 minutes or less (all backroads), but I'm wondering if it would be wiser just to not go in tomorrow and play it safe. Well, I hope she's having contractions or there is some water breakage going on in the morning - that will make my decision easier! For now, I wait...

Casper,
I haven't been around in a while, so let me give you a late congrats. Hope everything is ok and the wife lets you out for cards and golf here and there this spring.

Oh and my God does that kid look like you. If you photoshop a goatee on her, it'd look like you with a pink knit cap on.

Tell your wife I said congrats too.

Edit to say I only saw the first picture before I posted. Grow the goatee back so my post makes sense.

To those with newborns/fetuses...

...mine is 3.5 months now (see above) and is just getting over her first cold. Mommy gave it to both the baby and me. Enjoy that when it happens!

P.S: Go buy Tylenol Cold Infant Drops now so you don't have to in the middle of the night.

By the way, I find it awesome that someone with the screen name of "Runner Runner" had twins.
