The chefs are great. They all seem really on top of their game, and I like that they're (at this point) all friendly with eachother.

edit: I saw the chick that got eliminated and the guy that looks like Kevin Sorbo on Iron Chef at some point. Were ALL the contestants on the show before the trial?

Here's the offcial site with short bios on all the contestants. They're all very accomplished professionals, which is awesome.

Things I liked:

- the challenges were very "real" with no stupid gimmicky product placements

- no one is screaming at eachother, they actually act like professionals

- I might be wrong, but it appears that the plan is to have the same judges every week, which should make it more consistent

Things I didn't like:

- Alton Brown making annoying little comments like "THAT FLAN DONT LOOK TO GOOD EH?

- the stupid frantic music is very distracting

- wtf is up with all the defective equipment? I thought they were at the friggin CIA? ***Paging cardsharpcook***

From the video, here's the list of "traits" or whatever that'll define the next challenges.

Speed, Simplicity, Innovation, Artistry, Resourcefullness, Clarity, Lead

I liked it -- especially that it doesn't appear they'll be jerking them around with stupid situational gimmicks / product placements.

Alton is coming off an an ass thus far, though.

I enjoy Alton typically, but he's on about a 9 and we need him at a 5.

I have no idea how the kitchen at the CIA is [censored] up.

That blonde girl is kinda cute, but wtf at her suggestion that chefs actually view an Iron Chef title as something meaningful.

I do think the first challenge was interesting, and I thought that their reasons for [censored] on the bald dude were weak.

Michael Ruhlman on TV is always a good thing.

Alton is a huge dick and its coming through more in this show than ever before.

Do we really need to have the commish or whoever constantly scream "Iron Chef?" Is he incapable of saying it normally?

I would have thought bleeding into the food was an auto disqualify. If you leave some bones in the chicken or salmon, you get no points, but if you cover your product with a sheen of blood, you're ok?
