Default workout to put mph on my fastball?

just recently, while a friend and i were playing catch, he noticed something in my delivery and tweaked it a little bit. soon he had me popping the mitt and we got a hold of a radar gun, which had me throwing up to 85mph off of a mound. if i can do that in my sorry shape (6'1/2", 240 lbs, wide frame, lots of fat) i know i can get into the 90's if i put a little effort into getting stronger. well, what do you have for me?

General physical fitness has little to do with how fast you can throw a baseball, but losing some weight and strengthening your core couldn't hurt. The only way to throw a baseball faster is to increase your arm speed, and to do that, you need to improve your mechanics.

i've always read that for most power pitchers, the majority of the power (and velocity) comes from their legs.

He won't disclose too much about his exact routine, but in reading you get the feeling that legs & core are critical in his regimen. Build the lower half to take as much stress off the arm/shoulder as pitching is a very unnatural motion for the shoulder.

Long toss builds arm strength.

However, I'm of the opinion that, if you're fully developed, you won't be able to add much speed to a fastball. Tons of work for nominal gains. I would suggest working on fundamentals to gain control and off-speed dominance.
