Re: Trade Stoudamire for Garnett?
[ QUOTE ]
Amare's 24. I did not realize that realize that. KG is still the better player right now, but that's not going to happen, and Marion's peaking. I don't know if you do this. [/ QUOTE ] what? |

Re: Trade Stoudamire for Garnett?
LOL. Just summarizing for myself my thoughts.
KG is definitely the better player right now, but Amare will be way, way better 3-4 years from now (and will possibly be better next year, though unlikely). I don't think the trade is +EV, though it may just be the conservative in me. And Marion + the 4th pick for a 2nd? Really? I don't know the relative worth of draft picks in BBall, but Marion's one of the top 20 players in the league right now (easily) and should keep that up for one or two seasons. Yeah, durant will probably be great, but moving up just two slots? |

Re: Trade Stoudamire for Garnett?
[ QUOTE ]
1) He criticizes Nash because he's 33, but just brushes off the fact that Garnett is 31. [/ QUOTE ] Nash is two years older. But Garnett has played in 148 more NBA games. And has played 11,789 more minutes (the equivalent of 245 games). As for Stoudamire, he has played in 625 fewer games, the equivalent of 7.6 seasons. I realize that Simmons's reasoning is that the trade will give PHX a better shot at a championship in 2008 or 2009, but it'll kill them in 2011, when they see Stat still putting up monster seasons while Garnett is merely playing out his contract. |

Yeah, durant will probably be great, but moving up just two slots? [/ QUOTE ] Well, he's a top 20 player in his current role. The problem is he gets paid like a first option, and he's the 3rd on the Suns. They simply can't afford him and they won't be able to resign him. So a trade gets some value. And most of the likely teams to get the 2nd pick would be a good fit for Marion. If the Celtics get the 2nd pick, they'd have to seriously consider an offer for Marion and the 4th pick and try like hell to get Barbosa included. I still don't see it happening though. |
