Preflop overrep leads to funky river decision
29/20/1.6 villain; appears credible postflop.
The river felt like a decent value-betting opportunity until he turned the tables. $3/$6 Preflop: (5 players) Hero is Button with 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 folds, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, BB folds, Hero caps, SB calls. Flop: 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (9SB, 2 players) SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls. Turn: 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5.5BB, 2 players) SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls. River: 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (7.5BB, 2 players) SB bets |

Re: Preflop overrep leads to funky river decision
It always sucks being on the wrong end of a WA/WB line.
If villain was bad I would be calling without thinking. If villain is good, he either outplayed you with AQ, KQ or JJ. Or he is setting up a pretty darn good 3'rd level bluff. I prolly call tho and make a note of it. |

Re: Preflop overrep leads to funky river decision
I guess you could raise and hope he's bet-folding 99 or something . . .
I would probably just call, though. A case could be made for folding, I'd imagine. I doubt you're best here. Still, 8.5 to 1 . . . I couldn't fold. A couple of worse pocket pairs are even available. And in this steal situation he could have A6s or something. |

You are probably toast but he could have A6d or something like that.

You mean outflopped and played bad? [/ QUOTE ] For some reason I though Hero was UTG. Still, you dont play this WA/WB if you are villain? I usually do and suspect that I am missing value. |

Re: Preflop overrep leads to funky river decision
Call because his line doesnt make much sense and you have good odds.
If anything Id want to call for information here. You get a lot of valuable stuff here. how he reacts to your cap, if he didnt semi-bluff turn raise you with a draw, he plays WA/WB with a queen, can take random bluff river donks etc.. |

Re: Preflop overrep leads to funky river decision
Part of me really, really wants to raise this. This looks like a standard WA/WB line with 88-JJ. If villain A) has one of these hands and B) is capable of bet-folding, you win. You need to be right about 25% of the time for this to work.
The other part of me says to fold. The only hand I see you beating is A6. But then again, getting 8.5:1, in the heat of battle I'd probably just call. -Grendel |

Re: Preflop overrep leads to funky river decision
It's good to see the spectrum of considerations represented here. His looked very much like a premeditated, call-seeking bet, so the other two options were duelling in my head.
The hesitation I showed and the money in the pot made me settle on the consensus line. Alas. Owned by jacks. |
