Default Settlers of Catan anyone?

http://games.asobrain.com/

Free multiplayer online version available here. There are some fine maps to play, but avoid "March of the Penguins" at all costs, the map is a travesty.
Four Player Sweetness, Escape the Forest and Fifth Element are my favourite maps.

Putting a village on the 2:1 wood there is horrible :P
Wood is always needed and you can usually trade it 1:1 or better with other players.

Going all in on one hex like that is bad strategy. Even if the rolls were fine the robber could have hurt you too. Even I know that, heh.

You should have found a 5, 6, or 9 wood to use, too.

I have just recently acquired a seething Siedler habit. Wouldn't say I am all that good yet but am interested. I've been playing at the Java Settlers site, www.jsettlers.com - anyone have comments as to how it compares with site OP mentioned?
