Spam, fine. Ranting? Meh, not so much. A good rant can generate intelligent discussion, whereas a stupid rant can lead to the opposite. Discretion is needed - a 'ban all rants/ranters' policy would be too stifling.

Rants that involve substantive complaints or are actually funny are fine with me.

rants that are simply whining that don't get good after a couple replies = lock time.

I support your platform for the most part, but do we really need "***" for every official thread? Like every thread in SE is an official something-or-other. Seems like a simple "Official X Thread" would be easier on the eyes.
