Default Changing Cash into More Secure (Deposit, Checks) While Abroad

I have amassed a decent amount of pounds sterling playing poker in the UK and am wondering the best way to get it into my US accounts or at least change it into a safer form to keep around. I bank with Bank of America and Wachovia in the US and would like to figure out a way to transfer or deposit it, or at least get it out of cash form. I was wondering if there is an easy way to do this?

Otherwise can I wait to return to my bank branch in CT and have them convert the currency or should I have it doen while still in the UK and just deposit cash when I return? Thanks.

I would suggest buying Amex or Thomas Cook travllers cheques and mail/courier them back to the states or keep them on you. Safer then cash if you are carrying large amounts.
