So you would check/call the flop gtpitch? I was BB and first to act.
For the record I did call, MP showed QQ and BTN had 55 for a set that beat me. But I figure I'm ahead here most of the time to make the call.

No I'm saying that you should bet 700 as you did and call his all in. If you raise more preflop you might get the button to fold his 55 and you would beat QQ there. Of course button could be extremely loose in which you were losing either way. Tough beat.

(it is the first hand and raising 10xBB should be enough to make all non-premium hands fold)

[/ QUOTE ]

You didnt raise 10xBB though, you re-raise to 10xBB after 3 were already in for 2.25xBB

Thats the problem, there are 3 people already in for T55 and the T10 and T20 blinds making the pot 185 before you even get the chance to act. You throw your 55 in making it 240, then you make it another 145, so the pot is 385 and the next guy only has to call 145 to get in. He calls and the pot is 530 and the next guy only has to call 145 into 530.

With this being the first hand of the tournament, I dont mind a bigger than normal re--raise preflop here making it look like a donk raise. Later in the tournament I would make it 300ish but here I wouldnt mind re-raising 1/2 my stack and shoving the flop.

Some people play terrible early in tournaments and make ungodly raises with crap and get called by crap all the time. This might be one of those situations where you make it look like you suck and get called by someone with a crap hand.

OK. I have played with the button before and he seems a pretty bad player imo, not sure if he would have laid down his 55

We cant be result oriented here though.

Just because he doesnt fold to a bigger raise here doesnt mean we shouldnt raise bigger. At the time we didnt know he had 55 and would flop a 5 to beat us.

In general a raise to 300ish is going to be more profitable in the long run.

Or take my 2nd line and reraise huge making it look like we are one of those "First hand donks" and then shove the flop.

I see. Thank you all for the answers. I was just a bit stuck here, it's not that often that I get AA this early in a tourney. I never slowplay aces PF but I guess this early I just didn't know what was the right play. Also I'm not upset by being beaten by his set, I just wanted to know the right play in this situation.
