Math Question Royal flush
The dog track in Florida has a Royal Flush Jackpot in Diamonds. It has been hit 6 times since mid July. I thought the odds were appox. 2,500,000 to one. Does anyone know the odds ? Remember you must use 2 cards in your hand in holdem Thanks

Re: Math Question Royal flush
I don't know the answer, but there are some amazing math geniuses in the Probability forum. I've asked a few questions over there and have always gotten an answer with complete formulae within hours. Have you tried posting over there?
Which dog track are you writing about? How high was the JP when it hit? What do you get for a RF in clubs, spades or hearts? |

Re: Math Question Royal flush
The probability that one specific person will be dealt a royal flush in diamonds assuming that he always gets to see the flop and 5 board cards is :
10/52c2*47c2/50c5= 0.00000384769 |

Re: Math Question Royal flush
You don't need the math geniuses on the probability forum. You just need Google. www.math.sfu.ca/~alspach/art8.pdf
Answer: 1/64974. The 2.5million to one is the chances of hitting a specific suit of royal flush given exactly five cards. Hitting any royal is 4x more likely. Then make it 7 cards instead of 5 and it's not that unusual. The requirement that the player has to play two in hand pushes the odds back up a bit. |

Re: Math Question Royal flush
Note above that 1/64974 = 4*[10/52c2*47c2/50c5]
The answer is diamonds is 1/{64974*4)=0.00000384769... |

Re: Math Question Royal flush
Agree Approx 2,500,000 hands in holdem. 10 hole cards hands in diamonds= approx. 250,000 to 1.

Re: Math Question Royal flush
Not trying to hijack the thread but what are the odds of actually flopping a royal (of any suit)? A buddy flopped a royal at my home game and we've been trying to find what the odds were of him flopping it....not just hitting it by the river etc. I've searched alot online but can't find those odds, most just show what the odds are of hitting a royal by the river.
