Default Black Friday @ Foxwoods....

I havnt been to Foxwoods in a long time (since before they upped the buyin on the 1/2NL). Just been playing in homegames. I had the day off work & figured I'd take a little trip down from Boston.

Ummmm........How does this room even function? Is it regularly that busy, or was this out of character? I arrived at about 3pm, and there were 320+ people on the 1/2NL list. I waited about 2 hours, and finally one of the floor guys grabbed me and stuck me in a game without asking for my name. Guess he felt sorry for me.

By primetime there was a line across the room JUST TO CHECKIN! Let alone a list of almost 500 (for the 1/2). They were calling people that got on the list at 3pm at 9pm!

Anyway...I did well, but should I just forget going back until the Mohegan room opens and (hopfully) thins out the crowd at foxwoods?

Foxwoods has a very busy poker room most of the time. However, any holiday day when a lot of people have the day off the room gets insane. Unless I can get there early I don't even bother.

On most normal days the room is still busy but the 1/2 list moves fast because they have so many games going.
I played there Friday in the morning and got onto three lists and waited for an hour and a half until my name was first called. By dinner time the 2/5 list was short.

I was there on Friday, and that's about as crazy as it gets. The weekends leading up to the big tournaments can get pretty busy, like 150+ on the 1/2NL list, but Friday was definitely as busy as I've seen it. Summer is less busy than winter, but on any Saturday, you're best off if you get there by 12 or 1pm.

If you are able to make it, another good strategy is to get there before the daily tournament starts. Tons of people get up from their seats when they start and the list moves like crazy.

The real issue is that it is the only poker room in New England, so all the 20 somethings that have the week, or atleast the weekend off, are heading to foxwoods to play on the holidays. I live a little over an hour away and have found the best time to go to be late in the evenings on the week days, weekends the wait is just ridiculous.

And ps, the play is much better the later in the night you play. Had a nice 1000 BB session last time I was there playin through the night.

WPT makes it sound so inviting so thanks for the warning. Once we get back on financial track, the SO and I were thinking of heading east some fall. She wants to see the leaves turn colors and I want to play some poker.

This is usually my strategy too. However, i was there during tourney week a few weeks back and the lists seemed very manageable. Which surprised me.

I was there Friday. Waited 4 1/2 hours for a 2/5 game. Was #66 when I signed up. Swore I would never go there again (it was my first time), but most of the regulars said it isn't normally that bad. Really sucks because, of course, I played blackjack for a few hours while waiting and lost $1K before I even sat down to play poker. Crappy whole to try to get out of.

i was there wednesday night and saturday, it wasn't nearly as bad as you're describing, obviously. of course every guy who plays poker is going to go on black friday to make up for the $$ the wife is spending on "bargains"

Waited 9 hours for 1/2 on Friday. But the game was worth the wait... sort of.
