Re: changed my mind about michael vick, slap on wrist only

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Except what US Surgical did wasn't illegal. [/ QUOTE ] that's kinda my point. it doesn't seem fair that what they did/do is not illegal. [/ QUOTE ] O GREAT GUYS MORE LAWS Why should what they did be illegal? I don't see them infringing on anyone's rights. [/ QUOTE ] They're very clearly infringing on the rights of the dogs. |

Re: changed my mind about michael vick, slap on wrist only
you're pretty close to making a point here but not quite. there is a significant difference between raising dogs in a healthy environment, then putting them through a painless procedure and euthanizing them, and putting them through a torturous upbringing after which they reach a violent and painful death.
maybe if the people in the program tortued the animals to become killing machines, then used the staples on them with no anesthesia, then slammed them into the ground until they died, your point would be stronger. |

[/ QUOTE ] You know, having recently read a fair amount about dogfighting, I'd make the counterargument--that between these two choices, dogfighting is more natural and less odious. Dogfighting at least involves training breeds to do what comes pretty naturally to them, unlike raising them to be medical staple-displays and then euthanizing them. And with dogfighting, the dog has a chance--if it keeps winning, it's pampered and eventually sold out to stud. |

Re: changed my mind about michael vick, slap on wrist only
[ QUOTE ]
First point: You don't know me. I care deeply about dogs, but I'm not some asinine emo who can't handle life in the real world. Dogs die. People die. I'd prefer dogs dying to people dying. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure what an "emo" is so I'll ignore that. You're right, dogs die. I've had a few die on me in my time but none of them died from a sales pitch. Killing animals for medical research is wrong. It might be accepted but it's still wrong. What gives us the right? |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't think you actually know a whole lot about how most fighting dogs are treated when they're not fighting (hint: they're not tortured all day). Also, why wouldn't it be a consolation to get put out to stud? I know if I was a dog which life I'd pick, and it wouldn't be the one where I had my ass stapled shut and was then put to sleep in front of a group of investors. |

Re: changed my mind about michael vick, slap on wrist only
[ QUOTE ]
Would you prefer these doctors be trained to perform this procedure on you, or the dog? [/ QUOTE ] wtf, are you retarded? read the article. there was no training at all. none. the company was demonstrating how good their stitches worked so another company would buy the stitches. the sellers did the stitching, over and over again, over and over again, each time resulting in dead dogs. talk about blood money. [ QUOTE ] Feral said U.S. Surgical's demonstrations on hundreds of dogs each year through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s were done to boost sales, not for medical re search or testing. [/ QUOTE ] ok can you read that? do you know english? do you realize they could have just made a video and killed just one dog, if a live dog was absolutely necessary? |

Re: changed my mind about michael vick, slap on wrist only
Players cheating/teaming in poker games is a lot more common down south also.
You will also find a higher percentage of crooked law enforcement officers & local judges south of the mason/dixon line. Finally, discrimination is more commonplace south of the border. Guess there will be a lot of sore wrists south of the border under your rule. |
