Kill Pot Trigger - Pot Size?
Other than the usual rule of one player taking down two consecutive pots, what are normally the requirements for a kill pot to be triggered in live play?
In the casino in which I've been playing, there is no pot size requirement to trigger a kill pot. The only requirement is that the hand goes to the flop. In my last session, several times this resulted in a player having to post nearly all of the "pot" he just won. Example: UTG player wins a hand and posts the usuall big blind for the following hand. One person calls, sb fold (or calls), BB checks. Flop, turn, and river are checked down and BB end up winning a pot that is only 1.5 (or even 1.25) BB, less rake, and has to post 1 BB for the kill. It seems like there should be a pot size requirement like 3 or 5 BB before the kill is in effect. So are this card room's rules re kill pot triggers typical? |

Re: Kill Pot Trigger - Pot Size?
That's a horrible structure and the players put up with it because they are idiots.
At Casino Arizona the second pot has to be at least 8sb not counting the rake. At Gila River I'm told the trigger is $30 and that's one of the reasons I won't play there. |

Re: Kill Pot Trigger - Pot Size?
at most of the rooms i play it's usually ten small bets for the second pot,
the first one doesnt matter how big it is. in pendleton oregon at the wildhorse during their "poker round up" in the spring and fall they play with no qualifying size for the kill (well, actually all there has to be is an amount of "strange money" equal to the blinds.) but really the action more than makes up for the unfortunate rules regarding the kills. (in the omaha games any scoop triggers a kill, regardless of size.) |

Uh-oh! Did I say 8 small bets? I meant to say 10.

Re: Kill Pot Trigger - Pot Size?
At Seneca Niagara, it's $60 (10 big bets) in 3-6 and it's $60 and a scoop in Omaha/8. The weird thing about the 3-6 game is that they call it a half-kill, but a half-kill is impossible so there's always a debate as to whether it should be a one-third kill (4-8) or two-thirds kill (5-10).
