Protecting MPTK in large multi-way pot
Button is very loose aggressive, sb is awful player who has showdown terrible hands on many occasions.
PokerStars 0.50/1.00 Hold'em (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Preflop: Hero is BB with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG calls, MP calls, Button raises, SB calls, Hero calls, UTG calls, MP calls. I think my preflop here is justified getting likely 9:1 on my call even with a possibly dominated ace. Flop: (10 SB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, Hero checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Button bets, SB calls, Hero raises, UTG folds, MP folds, Button calls, SB calls. Here I figure button is c-betting almost all of his hands. I c/r the flop to help protect my middle pair against the two limpers and I don't think SB is very likely to have anything here. Is my play correct? Turn: (8 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, Hero bets, Button calls, SB folds. River: (10 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, Button calls. Final Pot: 12 BB |

I like how you played this. The river is thin, but I would bet it too. It would help if you had some read on how the button responds to aggression.

Re: Protecting MPTK in large multi-way pot
I like the way you played it. the pot is big so you don't have to win em all to justify your actions. Without a face or an ace on board the flop raise has potential.
The river bet may be a problem. Were you prepared to fold to a raise? |

Re: Protecting MPTK in large multi-way pot
With an aggressive player I usually c/c this river. My thinking is that I may get him to bluff UI overcards or some other weaker hand and I avoid getting raised by a better hand or as a bluff, cuz at this point I'm calling a raise because of the size of the pot and the fact that it's an aggressive villain but I hate it. This is kind of standard for me in these types of situations. Is this a bad way to think about the hand?
Also, I think that a pf fold is probably better here. If it's a button steal I definitely call but A7os plays pretty poorly in a mw pot. |
