Why is the US so good at sports?

I made this with the Olympics in mind, but it mostly goes with all sports. Why is the US so good at sports compared to all other countries? It can't purely be economical reasons, can it?

Economics is a big part of it, but an even bigger factor is the heterogenous population.

I am in Costa Rica right now, and let's just say kids arent going to the local tennis center.
This is why Soccer rules in poorer countries. It's so much easier to play with little means to do so.

Both of these. Also, the fact that we have every climate type on earth in our country helps. People who are good early at sports move to areas of the country that better serve their needs.

Meh, China and India have us crushed in population, but they're all coming from the same gene pool. The Melting pot effect of the US allows for not only a wide array of genetic traits, but also means that we have people bringing their cultures games with them.
If Kazakstan invents a new athletic competition tommorrow, its going to get to the US before it gets to China and India because of our immigration. Once the game is here, we have the wide assortment of genetics and the money to find the best person for the game.
