You know, after watching him for most of the season, I really like Mike Lowell. I was very skeptical of bringing him in but he has overcome last season and just seems to have a really good outlook that you would hope for from a veteran. Now that he's obviously off the juice he's turned himself into a good doubles hitter and just seems like a good guy.

Were there really strong suspicions of Lowell juicing?

Well he's a lot smaller than he used to be and his power numbers took a sick drop. My guess would be he was, but some of the stat guys might be able to better speculate on whether age / injury could be a factor. To me, the difference is pretty drastic.

During the hot stove last winter after the Sox acquired him there was a lot of speculation on talk radio around here that his bad year last year could have been the result of getting off the roids. But no more than that, idle speculation.

It always cracks me up when I take a trip up there for the holidays, and local radio is focused on the baseball team in December. A few mentions of the football team, and no mention of any other sports.

Can I just say that I am stoked about having Wily Mo full time next year? That kid is going to work out.

Anybody else think the Red Sox need to hit Mike Lowell in the head with a fastball every day during batting practice?

I'd rather look for a way to put him up against a young, inexperienced lefty with a too-straight fastball and control problems every day, but the fastball to the head thing might work in a pinch.

Is there a worse defensive catcher than Javy Lopez?
