Default Tipping confusion

All these tipping rules are ridiculous IMO - why do we tip a gas attendant who pumps your gas, but not a supermarket cashier who bags your groceries, for ex.? It makes no sense to me. But I don't want to be cheap either. I just don't want to be the only sucker going around tipping everyone who ever comes to my front door. Is there some sort of master list to follow about who to tip and who not to?

Any thoughts on whether or not I should be tipping these people?

Guys who deliver a TV I ordered online?
Landscaper?
1-800-Mattress delivery guys?
Plumber who replaces a leaky pipe?
Electrician who installs a ceiling fan?
Guy who installs DirecTV dish?
Contractor who re-paves driveway?
Furniture delivery guys?
Trash pickup guys (public works, not private)

Apologies if some of these are obvious, I'm a relatively new homeowner and have no clue if I am stiffing people who expect a tip.

The rules are ridiculous only because you think they exist.

There is no spoon dude.

Definitely delivery guys, I agree with offering a drink also. I don't tip my landscaper but he runs/owns the business. I leave a gift envelope for public works during holiday season. Not the plumber, electrician or contractor, but offers of drinks/snacks definitely. I just realized I pretty much repeated what poster above me said.

Anyone who goes out of the way for me though, I tip when its expected or not. My contractor came to fix my window and closet. He saw part of my fence was broken along with the latch, so he just fixed it as a favor. I offered him money but he wouldn't take it, so I got him his favorite bottle of wine as a gift to say thanks.

Same with a neighborhood kid (old neighborhood) who helped me do bulk cleanup, I paid him by the hour, but he did a good job and wanted to tip him. He wouldn't take it (he is such a good kid) so I got him a four pack of movie passes. Be creative.

By default you should never tip. Only tip if the job warrants it; it's a way to show your appreciation. But I never appreciate just a guy doing his job; someone else will do his job if he won't. [censored] a tip

[censored] that. I make a [censored] of money now, I consider myself fortunate. If people who are decent and hardworking are serving your luckyass in some way, you should be generous. Obviously, if theyre a dick, than forget it. But in general, I like to tip. A lot of those people are good, decent, hard working people. They were not as fortunate to be born as smart or be raised in a cultivating environment to make as much as some of us do.

Its probably undeserved at times, but so are a lot of the fat paychecks some of us are getting.

edit: Im talking about generousity towards people who are decent and work hard. Its not too hard to figure out that some are doing all right with their own business. Those are the ones who dont deserve [censored], cuz they spend the majority of their time figuring out ways to [censored] people over. Im just talking about people who just try to do their job and be courteous to random folk who are for the most part, better off than them.

I'm not "lucky." That's their job; I'm not rewarding someone for being "decent."
