Default OOT: Am I a Facebook nit?

My friend B is hosting a party at his apartment and inviting people through Facebook. The event will be small: about 15 people. He sent out an invitation to a girl named Nikki whom he met once at a valet event. I have worked with Nikki twice and exchanged numbers with her. She has expressed interest in hanging out with me, but we have fallen out of contact over the past two months. I have no romantic interest in Nikki. B and Nikki are not currently friends on Facebook, so he sent her a friend request with an attached message. Here is his message that went along with the friend request:

"Hey, Jason is thinking about going to an event in Ann Arbor on Friday and he is wondering if you would be interested. Please accept so I can send you an invitation."

The following is our conversation on AIM immediately preceding the friend request:

(8:42:27 PM) B: I actually want Nikki to come.
(8:42:40 PM) B: I think she would introduce an entertaining dynamic.
(8:42:45 PM) J: so invite her then.... DO NOT mention me
(8:42:53 PM) J: please
(8:42:59 PM) B: Hmm...
(8:43:10 PM) B: Hmm...
(8:43:13 PM) B: Okay, I can do that.
(8:43:20 PM) J: ok
(8:43:36 PM) J: do not mention me
(8:43:40 PM) J: or if u do
(8:43:45 PM) J: u could say jason might be going
(8:43:46 PM) J: MIGHT
(8:43:50 PM) B: Okay, awesome.
(8:44:05 PM) J: its actually makes more sense this way
(8:44:15 PM) B: Except she kinda hates me.
(8:44:16 PM) J: since u will definately be there
(8:44:19 PM) J: and i might not
(8:44:22 PM) B: So it's less likely that she'll actually go.
(8:44:36 PM) B: No, it makes less sense because she probably likes me less than zero.
(8:44:39 PM) J: i think she is probably neutral
(8:44:45 PM) B: As in she probably sees me as lower than neutral.
(8:44:46 PM) B: Possibly.
(8:44:46 PM) J: did u do something?
(8:44:55 PM) B: Not especially.
(8:45:06 PM) J: so i odnt see how u could be lower than neutral
(8:45:11 PM) J: back in a flash
(8:46:13 PM) B: But it's weird in a way.
(8:46:32 PM) B: It'll sound like you don't want to ask her for some reason.
(8:46:47 PM) B: Kinda like how it was weird that you didn't bring up anything to Christina. (aside...irrelevant to conversation)
(8:47:06 PM) J: then dont mention me
(8:47:12 PM) J: i dont care either way
(8:47:19 PM) J: if i go, i might call her on friday
(8:47:22 PM) J: we could leave it at that
(8:48:08 PM) B: Does she know who "Jason" is?
(8:48:36 PM) J: probably not
(8:48:41 PM) B: Hey, Jason is thinking about going to an event in Ann Arbor on Friday and he is wondering if you would be interested. Please accept so I can send you an invitation.
(8:48:48 PM) J: must take poo*
(8:48:49 PM) J: brb
(8:48:53 PM) B: Sending.
(8:48:54 PM) B: Good?
(8:49:24 PM) B: Sent.
(8:53:15 PM) J: can i see
(8:53:19 PM) J: copy and paste?
(8:53:24 PM) B: Scroll up.
(8:53:27 PM) J: oh
(8:53:34 PM) J: you [censored]
(8:53:41 PM) J: u gotta be kidding
(8:53:43 PM) B: WTF?
(8:53:58 PM) J: u are joking, right?
(8:53:59 PM) B: I sent it to you for approval.
(8:54:16 PM) B: Okay, what's wrong with it?

Did B violate J's trust...?

Broads named Nikki are generally looser than a play money poker table. I couldn't follow that retarded IM exchange but one of you should try to hit that, or at least take a number and wrap it twice.

It sounds like something from 3rd grade, all it's missing is the yes, no, maybe checkmarks.

All,

settle a debate: which mod is most likely to reference his modding on his resume?

This is your fault imo. Your friend seems a bit dense (also, semantics can be a problem in e-convos) so it's up to you to have to explain to this type of person clearly what he can or can't put on his invitation.

I took some of what you said in the convo, and the first half of the quote you are very ambiguous and ambivalent. You use "could" "if" "might" "i don't care" "mention me" "don't mention me"... you need to seriously be more solid in what you say.

The second half of the convo you can see that your friend is kind of thick headed. He probably didn't really notice you're gone (looking at myspace or juggling convos with other ppl) and thus your quiet response was probably taken as a green light.

Here's pretty much what you should have said rather than giving your friend a bunch of unclear, mixed messages.

1) "Don't mention me."
2) "If you mention me, say I might be there."

Keep it simple. Coating your responses with "if" & "might" and being indecisive by saying "DO NOT mention me" followed by "I don't care" is just gonna lead to confusion.

So to answer your question, ya you are a nit.
