Like this trade as a Nats fan. Schneider isnt very good and Milledge is an upgrade to Church

I've been looking at #'s for 30 minutes now, trying to figure out how the hell Omar could justify this trade. And I got nothing.

Sure Schneider is a defensive upgrade over Castro/Estrada (whose as good as gone now), but he can't hit a lick. Church and Milledge are essentially the same player now. However, Milledge is much much younger. Church is almost 30 already.

What am I missing?

Milledge is a clubhouse cancer ldo. Plus he didn't know how many outs there were in the final game of the season. And he's got a rap label and his name is kinda hard to say.

I feel for you Met fans, this is simply a brutal trade. Not only is it clearly not in the Mets' favor, but Lastings is going to be a National for at least 4 years, taunting the Mets with every home run he hits.

Nothing. Thats about it. I mean Church is a good player, but I dont know if he is getting much better then he is. Schneider really cant hit worth a damn. Seems like a young player like Milledge could get more. I thought we were going to have to give up Rauch to get him or someone like him..

i find it extremely hard to believe that the organization didn't see any off-field problems coming with milledge. if that was the case, why didn't we trade him two years ago when his value was through the roof?

this trade only makes sense if another GM is really high on church.

Exactly. Clubhouse cancer, "rapper", bad attitude or not why trade him within the division? And no pitching in return? Omar is telling us that not one other team could do better than Church + Schneider? I simply can't believe that.

This sure as hell better be a precursor to another deal. We have 2 catchers and a glut of OFers. So we trade a chip for a C and an OFer.

I now have utterly zero confidence in Minaya's ability to make this team succeed. I think I said it earlier in this thread, it is becoming clearer that if the move isn't as obvious at throwing a boatload of money at Pedro or Beltran, he is utterly lost.

As someone said on another board, this offseason is becoming worse than the collapse.

I like L Millz and hate the trade, but I really have few worries about him taunting us for the next few year. Throw him a curveball off the plate and he's done for.

I couldn't agree more. What little confidence I had in Minaya (even after last year's disastrous offseason) is now completely gone.

This team isn't necessarily worse going into 2008 after this trade. But we are going to start feeling the pain caused by trading Milledge, Bannister, Bell, Lindstrom, Owens & to a lesser extent Ring once Citi Field opens.

Oh...and this offseason isn't even close to being over yet. We still have yet to see Omar trade off the rest of our prospects to the lowest bidder.
