And perhaps the military strategists need to study this historical information: On air power

[/ QUOTE ]

this could be the most misguided article ive seen on this conflict since it started. I'll just comment on the first paragraph since it sets the stage for the rest of it.

[ QUOTE ]
Military historians have a name for the logic behind Israel's military campaign in Lebanon. It's called the "strategic bombing fallacy." Almost since the dawn of the age of military air power, strategists have been tempted by the prospect that the bombing of "strategic" targets such as infrastructure and transportation hubs could inflict such pain on a population that it would turn against its leaders and get them to surrender or compromise.

[/ QUOTE ]

This has nothing, zero, nada to do with the Israeli strategy. They have no expectation that the "population will turn against its leaders and get them to surrender or compromise". It is simply to cut off convenient resupply lines, thats it. Its a tactic, not a strategy. And contrary to the statement later in the article, resupplying missiles with the airports and major roads cut off is not a trivial exercise.

total garbage, not suprising from the Washington Post.

All hail the reappearance of Cyrus the Great!

Well informed analysis lives!

(That's hortatory, not sarcastic.)

Terrorism is a constant. A lesson from History that almost all ignore.

As to particulars in this lasted round of exchanges amongst new and old friends, all sides use terror as a weapon, whether state sponsored, by group affiliation, or as an individual act of a lone person. This salient fact is ignored by those that wish to push a certain agenda that they are married to and to engage in propagandist messages that feed some deep seated need to feel morally superior to everyone else because they adhere to a position of defending the "underdog" and thus reap the high ground of self- induced virtue - A nice round hypothesis that may or may not be justifiably applied to many posters on this forum.

Anyway this latest round of killings and atrocities should escalate, and since more internecine conflict is forthcoming, more people will likely die and any resolution to this intractable conflict will simply be extended into the unforeseeable future. And death and destruction is in the future for all concerned. And deservedly so.
