Man vs.Machine
I just retired, age 68. Online poker has replaced golf, fishing the last 22 months. With the help of books and Poker Tracker I can almost break even at .50c/$1 Hold'em Limit after losing a couple thousand in Limit/No Limit. My fantasy is to get better and move up to $3/$6 Limit, maybe even make a few thousand a year. Great hobby, pastime. Joined Poker Players Alliance to get this legalized.
Newspaper today: Tomorrow, 7/23/07, Phil Laak and Ali Eslami start a 2-day 2000 hand Hold'em game against a University of Alberta computer. The story says, "They (computer programs) can already beat virtually any amateur player." I figured I had few years to play before computer programs took over. That they wouldn't be bothering anyway with 50c/$1 games. But they might if the programs could multi-task, play a bunch of sites at once. Are poker web sites monitoring against programmed poker? And if they are, is it going to be a cat-and-mouse game where the programs work around whatever the web sites look for? I want to get better at a Game, not make regular donations to people running programs. Should I plan on going back to fishing and golf? |

Re: Man vs.Machine
you'll be fine. just keep studying.
then again golf and fishing aren't bad hobbies either, so maybe you should balance things out a bit. |

Re: Man vs.Machine
welcome to the forums
try reading the internet forum for more about poker bots/programs, try asking some of the guys you golf with if they want to start a weekly/monthly home game. |
