We don't feel we're better than Europeans, we know we're better. It's not even a contest at this point.

I love the accents, the different ways of life, the architecture in London, France, Italy, and I love the history of Europe. I'd love to spend a holiday there in any of the aforementioned (hah) places.

What I dislike is when Europeans judge American government without really knowing US history, etc. (Won't name exact poster I'm talking about) Or judge Americans as a whole, stereotyping us.

I also dislike the more socialized forms of government found in Europe.

Ehm... LOL?

Also, what historic information should alter, say someone that thinks the US is doing horrible stuff in the Middle East and has done even more so in South America?

How about the entire history of the world from the Middle Ages on. Europe has not exactly been a hands-off benign entity, bringing peace and stability everywhere it goes. Almost every conflict world-wide has some originating issue with European colonialism and the division of the world after the two world wars.

What bothers me about Europeans (or at least the generic portrayal of Europeans in the media) is the perception that their hands are clean in the world and that all conflict is the fault of the ugly Americans.

I generally think Europeans have a better attitude towards life (especially as it pertains to balancing work with other interests) and better forms of government of the US. But I still like America better because we have a lot more TV channels and soccer sucks.

This is what I opened this thread to say. The average American loses about as much sleep worrying about what Germany thinks of us as he does worrying what Senegal thinks.

not necessarily my opinion but what I believe most americans believe...

[ QUOTE ]
Do you feel yourself better than us?

[/ QUOTE ]

politically yes. most other aspects are probably closer but few americans will admit to anything that we're not at least equal to europe in. small groups of people have a fanatical love for certain things such as german cars or italian clothes.

[ QUOTE ]
More modern/less advanced?Europe wealthyer/more poor?

[/ QUOTE ]

for both questions, equal to some countries, greater than others. unless we're talking about places like Monaco but that doesn't count.

[ QUOTE ]
Would you ever go to Europe on a holiday?

[/ QUOTE ]

Europe is a very popular spot for Americans to vacation

[ QUOTE ]
You have different opinions on each country, or do you view us all alike?

[/ QUOTE ]

They're all different.

I also think each successive question became less and less debatable, like you'll probably get a lot of different opinions on the first one, but I don't know anyone who thinks of all of Europe as being the same.
