Much the same as online poker room operators get yanked off airplanes passing thru the US?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry, did Rumsfeld invade Germany? Do you see why your analogy is flawed?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, not as far as I know. I pretty much know he invaded Iraq under false pretenses though! I also know that since the Iraq invasion there has been an estimated 600,000 death of Iraqis over and above what would have occurred during a Hussein regime.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey, do you see why you've totally avoided my point about the analogy being flawed? I'll give you a hint, the CEO's of online gaming who were yanked off of planes in the U.S. WERE DIRECTING THEIR ACTIVITY AT THE U.S. RUMSFELD DID NOT INVADE GERMANY.

A Bill Kunstler front organization, trying to make itself relevant, which it hasn't been since he died. (If defending organized crime and terrorists along with Ron Kuby was "relevant", if not, he and the CCR wasn't relevant since the Chicago 7 and a half.)

bunch of garbage that was already dismissed once.

True. I suppose it's more a matter of perspective. My impression is that in the EU terrorism is still seen as a law enforcement task, which is definitely not the case in the US. And with Taliban/AQ detainees from Afghanistan, we truly are dealing with a military situation.

I think a lot of the difference in outcome reflects that distinction more than any superior European respect for human rights.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, it works both ways. Different perspectives has put different countries into different situations. IMO, the pure law enforcement perspective is naive and the pure military perspective is extremely naive. The invasions of Kosovo and Afghanistan contains the best of three worlds (still of course in both scenarios the job is far from done), deceisive military power combined with a law enforcement effort combined with attempts to win "hearts and minds". The only positive thing that has come out of the invasion in Iraq is that the myth that military power can solve these problems have been weakened, and thus hopefully the US politicians due to lack of popular support will be reluctant to repeat the mistake again and thus the future looks brighter.

I'd like to see some extraordinary rendition of Rummy to Germany. On the way, they should pick up that old Vietnam war criminal Kissinger.

"Germany was chosen for the court filing because German law provides "universal jurisdiction"

In my house, I have just finished jman220's house's rules of civil procedure. In my house, I have jurisdiction over crimes that have occurred everywhere in the world, including other planets. I am now initiating a lawsuit, to be heard by judge jman220, in the court of jman220, against Neil Armstrong for the vandalism he did to the moon.

at least we know now where from the idea of "universal jurisdiction" over other countries solving their domestic problems, defence issues, allies, leaderships, economy came out. what colour is your house jman220?

If you are charging and convictind saddam hussein than Rumsfield and Bush need to be charged also and hung for there crimes. They are responsible for 100,000 Iraq deaths and over 3000 americans lives and who knows how many injured.

Also there are still individuals being held at guatonamo Bay for 5 years and still have not been chegred. Also how about the individuals that were shipped on the special planes to countries that allowed torture.

Exactly! And Rumsfeld was the one to stand against the military, as a civilian, not giving them the troops level requested early on in the war. That was done to appease those that understood the economics of war. 300,000 servicemen may have had a chance to clean-up in less than a year. Rumsfeld miserly interference costs many US lives, imo, he ought to get investigated for incompetence, at least.

I'm not arguing that Rumsfeld isn't possibly guilty of war crimes. I'm simply arguing that the forum for that grievance is certainly not Germany.

It's statements like this that really convince me that this is a politically-motivated witch-hunt. It's a trial for failure and being associated with a discredited idea, not war crimes.
