HU limit
I am not by any means a beginner, but I have been doing some calculations on Heads up limit holdem 5-10 and under and to me it looks like the rake will suck the table dry. Opponents dont appear to be clueless enough from what I have seen to make it profitable.
Has anybody put in the hands and come out on top? |

Re: HU limit
from what i understand, i'm pretty sure you are correct for limits below $5/$10 and very likely correct for $5/$10 as well. if you go a bit higher i think it becomes profitable if you are good.

Re: HU limit
check the hu forum. yes, people have shown extended periods of winning poker at low limits, but its hard and usually requires either advanced skills or excellent game selection and decent rakeback.

Re: HU limit
not to say that an excellent player can't turn a profit without RB and good game selection, but if he can do that he should be playing higher

Re: HU limit
The rake isn't that exorbitant (about 1.6 BB/100) at 5/10. Consider that you and your opponent will be playing postflop most of your hands, and if he has a few leaks in his game he will make several (perhaps dozens of) mistakes worth fractions of a BB every 100 hands.
The keys to HU LHE are to game select (meaning being willing to quit someone who is close to you -- or better than you! -- in terms of skill level), good solid theoretical understanding of poker and an ability to adapt to your opponents' playing style to maximally exploit them. |

Re: HU limit
I do agree partially but (1.6 BB/100) is quite large and inclines you to search for low-level players to consistantly pound while avoiding your even steven opponents.
Graphs to show would be nice |
