Default The Seven Stud Forum & Freedom Of Speech

Recently, I returned to playing seven stud after a break playing HE sitngos.

I suffered a big adverse downswing. I made a post to that effect and got some good replies and some not so good ones.

Early on, I got a private message from someone (who will remain anonymous) concerning a downswing they were suffering. It seemed strange to me that he/she would post this as private message and not in the thread itself. It would soon become apparent why.

As my downswing continued and the advice poured in via the threads it was clear that some people were downright abusive and negative. My own mistake was replying to these people in the language they used.

Andy B has asked me not to engage with these people and I trust he has also asked them to not engage with me. I hope he has penalized them in someway for their abusive posts.

These people can dish it out but not take it...

Advice for anyone suffering a downswing:

If you can beat the game and have been doing so against opponents that make obvious mistakes then stick in the game. Do not play angry, drunk or tired. However, you should look at the number of hands you are playing and how far you are going with them. Also, there is evidence that downswings can last over 30,000 to 40,000 hands (as put forward by posters)so a downswing lasting for a few hundred bets and a few thousands hands will just have to be tolerated. You will need to remember bigger downswings have occurred to better players. (We must not forget to be humble.)

The "Freedom of Speech" thing. Is this limited or does it apply to everyone.

I have not prevented anyone from posting or locked any threads.

Is freedom of speech limited to everyone else or does it include me?

You hijacked a perfectly good thread and it has now been locked thus preventing myself and other contributors from contributing to it. I refer, of course, to the Biggest Limit Stud Pot Won thread.

The best advice is: if you can beat the game and it is obvious the opposition is making lots of mistakes and your bankroll is good then stick at it. You will have to play for it as that appears to be the only answer as well as not playing too many hands. Be careful of all the haters.

Your explanation included the words "against your better judgement". Could you please explain why you would play a hand against your better judgement. Have you ever done this in the past? Do you think this is a good thing, considering your downswing? How does this make you a better player? Do you think this type of thinking has contributed to your current state?

If fact, does anyone think this "going against your better judgemnet" is good for ones win rate.

Al please respond.
