Default New Years Eve in Madrid or Paris

I'm going to Europe for a month during winter break, but don't know where to spend New Years. I will be in Paris for 5 nights and then flying to Madrid. I'm looking to cut Paris to 4 nights and celebrating New Years in Madrid. My only concern is whether Madrid will be fun in New Years.... anyone with experience?

can't speak for madrid, but the best NYE i've ever had was in paris.

was at the eiffel tower for the midnight fireworks. can't say the fireworks themselves were all that, but the tower was beautiful and the random people in attendance were insanely cool. randoms would come by and refill my glass with their champagne, or kiss me on both cheeks with a "bonne annee".

would be interested to hear abt madrid..

I spent a New Year's Eve in London and one in Rome. Rome was actually cold and dreary that night, and London was surprisingly not. But Rome was a lot more fun because I was there with a friend who knew a lot of locals, and we just tagged along. Went to an outdoor concert and then a private party in an absolutely slamming apartment that went until dawn.

So my advice would be to make friends in Madrid and get yourself invited to something that sounds fun.
