PT and Bots -- What\'s the difference?
Talking strictly about non-colluding bots here. A friend asked the difference and I'm not exactly sure -- I just know many including myself use PT but are against bots.
So tell me, 2+2, why is PT ok but bots (even non-colluding) is not? |

Re: PT and Bots -- What\'s the difference?
bots make actions for you, can play when you're not at the computer, never tilt....
PT w/hud gives you some general numbers to try and help you make decisions |

So tell me, 2+2, why is PT ok but bots (even non-colluding) is not? [/ QUOTE ] The most basic answer is simply that PT is allowed by poker sites and bots are not. There is a range of "assistance" that an online payer can take advantage of. Basically it goes like this: Record keeping -> Heads-up display -> Automated button pushing -> decision assistance -> botting Different sites draw the line in different places. WPEX and Cake, for instance, are some of the more strict and only allow you to track your play putting in safegaurds against tracking other's play or using HUDs etc. FTP and PokerStars are more lenient and allow the first three on my list, basically Poker Tracker, PokerAce, and AutoHotKey. There are programs that watch the hand and tell you what to do. And botting is typically defined as when "you" can play the games without being at your computer - totally automated play. To my knowledge no online poker sites allow decision support or botting. But I return to my first statement, the main difference in the morality or ethics of using any of this assistance is based on what the site allows. |

Re: PT and Bots -- What\'s the difference?
Have a HUGE PT database and the best HUD layout ever doesn't do anything if you do not know what the numbers mean and how to play against people who have those numbers.

Once you have a bot, you can make a thousand working copies in a much less time than it will take you to make a thousand PT-using friends who are perfectly executing your instructions for how to play using PT-supplied statistics. |

Re: PT and Bots -- What\'s the difference?
A HUD player can play an A+ game some of the time, and sometimes he plays a D game.
The bot is playing a B game every single hand. |

Re: PT and Bots -- What\'s the difference?
A bot: - has constant play with any number of tables - can play more tables than is physically possible for a human - has constant play with any number of hours of play - can play more hours than is physically possible for a human |

Comparing the two is a kin to trying to compare a rabbit to a truck. Two completely different things. |
