A hypothetical question (relates to religeon/God).
A friend of mine (Atheist) and myself (Jewish and God believer) often talk about God and such. He is a very outspoken disbeliever, Richard Dawkins quoter pastafarian etc. While I see his point in a lot of his arguments I still believe in God for a number of reasons (unimportant for the question).
Anyway, onto the question which I thought was interesting (I apologize if it wasnt). Lets say we (as in humans) discover tommorow a distant planet (one which we can be reasonably sure has not been spying on us or anything like that) in a far away galaxy with alien life on it. On this planet the aliens have the exact same bible as us (lets say old testament or whatever) word for word, would this be enough to make you certain that God existed? Discuss. |

Re: A hypothetical question (relates to religeon/God).
Probably yeah. The key is "reasonably sure" though. You'd better be damn sure of it.

I think it would make little difference to me really.

Re: A hypothetical question (relates to religeon/God).
Given the discovery you've described, it makes it more logical proof of traveling Aliens writing said bible than God.
.....oh yeah...almost forgot.....DUCY? |

No. I suppose that even if this ridiculous scenario happened there is some equally ridiculous scenario that could explain how this could happen without the existence of God. |

I'm sure our friends in SMP would love to answer this one.

No. I suppose that even if this ridiculous scenario happened there is some equally ridiculous scenario that could explain how this could happen without the existence of God. [/ QUOTE ] Agreed, to spell it out, finding this alien world proves interstellar travel is possible and simple enough that we mortals can figure it out. It also proves there is other intelligent life out there. Given these two discoveries, isn't it more likely a scenario that traveling aliens could deposit the same book on both planets than there is one all knowing ominipotent God who hates gays and heavily frowns upon masturbation? |

Re: A hypothetical question (relates to religeon/God).
I would assume the bible was planted on Earth by these "spying" aliens - or they transformed into the apostles.. or whatever... unless somehow proven otherwise. This would be a more likely scenario in your hypothetical question.
People on different continents don't have the same Bible (or variations of the term), I doubt our alien friends would. Oh, and... -> SMP |

Re: A hypothetical question (relates to religeon/God).
you guys really have no idea how the bible came about do you... it's a bunch of manuscripts that were put together by some council. it was never introduced to the world as one bound book.
and no - this would totally not prove the existence of God... and this is coming from someone that does believe in God. |
