I have an 8 month old Boston and am incredibly happy that I got him.

He has freakislhy large ears for a Boston though. He's a super friendly, energetic, playful, funny dog. My mother has a four year old one that is pretty much the same but really really hyper.

Good for apartments still IMO but they love/probably need exercise.

OP- I definitely wouldn't get a dog in your situation fwiw.

QFT. I've been around Boston's all my life and they can be really hyper dogs. My current Boston can run my German Shepherd ragged at times.

Btw, those ears look pretty normal for a Boston.

I wouldn't get a dog if I were you, and I love dogs. You travel too much imo to get a pet. If you were living with your parents or something then I would recommend a collie (I have 2 at my parents house) or a sheltie. I think I'm going to get a cat or a small dog for my next pet, but I'm probably not getting one for a few years at least.

You gotta think about it from the pet's point of view, and it doesn't sound like fun to be away for 4 months out of the year.

Getting a dog would be awful for both the dog AND you.

I love dogs, but I think anyone who doesn't own their own home (or are settled in one place) should reconsider.

My old roommates got a dog against my warnings, and now as much as they love the dog it's a huge pain for them to take care of.

If you're out and about a lot, think about who will have to feed it, walk it, etc. It's sort of like having a child.

If you treat your cat(s) well while it's a kitten, it will be just as loving and loyal as a dog.

I agree with most of the posters in this thread that say that you shouldnt get a dog if you plan on travelling that much.

However, If someone is looking to get a dog I would strongly recommend the adopt-a-greyhound program. A cousin of mine got one and they are actually great family dogs

Don't get a dog.

But if you do, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are AWESOME small house/lap dogs. They're expensive but they are really intelligent and adorable animals.
